DE Chase Young (Nagurski, Hendricks, Bednarik, Silver Football, NFL DROY, New Orleans Saints)

Indiana’s only chance to avoid Chase Young wrecking plays today was to snap the ball from the shotgun and throw it to the other hash faster than Chase Young could run five yards to get to Ramsey.

He’s legit playing at Suh level right now and will not be in the Heisman discussion because he’ll only play 2-1/2 quarters in 8 of Ohio States games.

It's mind boggling to watch him play right now. He was good last year, but the next step he took to becoming truly elite is on full display. He is just flat out embarrassing opposing OL's and damn it is fun to watch. I start every play looking for where #2 is when we are on defense. His development has put him right on par with where the Bosa brothers were at when they left and I didn't think I would be saying that for a long, long time. Keep the Predator healthy and get the popcorn.

I’m curious to know exactly how many snaps he’s played on defense. If he was in there all game, he might have double digit sacks already. Absolutely insane.

NCAA stats (link) has Ohio State charted at 197 defensive plays. 11W's per-game snap counts (here, here, and here) have DE's credited with 411 snaps overall, which accounts for all plays, including special teams, and DE's in the Rushmen formation sub-ing in for DTs hence it being higher than 394 (197*2) and an odd number.

Chase has played 111 snaps total. So 27% of all possible snaps doled out to members of his position group, and 56% of snaps on regular defensive plays.

Chase Young: 111
Javontae Jean-Baptiste: 77
Zach Harrison: 63
Tyler Friday: 48
Tyreke Smith: 41
Jashon Cornell: 32 (all snaps as a DE were against FAU with Cooper, Friday, and Smith out)
Alex Williams: 19
Noah Potter: 14
Aaron Cox: 6
