I guess the Slade offer means Thomas is definitely out of the mix and probably the other D linemen we were after. Slade has some nice film, but will need a redshirt year. Not quite Jamal Marcus 2, as Marcus had the quickest first step I've seen in a while. But Slade is very athletic, and will benefit from our S&G program. He seems more of a project, but could be worth the wait. LJsr is making his presence felt already.

Very very very raw prospect but the upside here is tremendous...and his coach will tell you he has it between the ears to be a great one. Has only been playing football for two years. He has a huge wingspan and phenomenal athleticism for a guy his size but he has a lot to learn at the next level, which is why he is currently a 3-star. This kid has the chance to be what I thought Melvin Fellows could have been before his knees fell apart. This one has LJSr written all over it...and the family connection is huge. This one will likely come down to OSU and MSU. Not sure he is an automatic take right now but if things fall through with Thomas, McDowell, etc. this would be a heck of a consolation prize.

With the depth we have and LJ Sr. on the DL, I feel much, much better about taking raw kids and giving them a couple years with no rush to develop and get onto the field. Same with the OL and Brady Taylor, I'm looking forward to seeing the staff get a chance to develop kids on the line. It's a simple model but one that takes good scouting, coaching, and patience and is something we've seen MSU do as well.

I don't think I feel the same way about the O line with us losing 4 starters and a lot of unproven talent. Though I'm fine with Taylor.
But with the D line I definitely agree

It's OT and we can move to another thread but I don't feel like we're losing 4 starters necessarily as Boren was playing half the game or more for a good chunk of the season and I have no worries about him as starter, and I saw Elflein perform very, very well in both the scUM and CCG games. It was a more a connection of Slade and Taylor being developmental guys that I feel very confident in with their respective line coaches.
