COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The process of getting into the NFL continued on Wednesday for Ohio State's Jalyn Holmes and Tyquan Lewis.

The duo of defensive ends are in Mobile, Ala., participating in the Senior Bowl and completed the second day of practice on Wednesday. Holmes and Lewis are the two players representing the Buckeyes in this year's game. Both are playing for the North team as they each try to impress NFL general managers, coaches and scouts before April's NFL Draft.

Holmes and Lewis were part of a deep defensive line in Columbus. Events like the Senior Bowl are allowing the two the opportunity to stand out on their own.

Don't forget to check out how they performed on Day 1.

Here's a look at how the two players did during Wednesday's practice session.

Holmes continued to put some impressive plays on display. Wearing No. 91 this week, he showed that although he is listed at 279 pounds, that doesn't mean he's slow. As you can see in these clips, he has plenty of speed and quickness to burn.....

Jonathan Valencia of BreakingFootball.com reported that Holmes met with scouts from both the Eagles and Panthers after practice. The Eagles also met with Lewis on Tuesday.

Valencia added that Lewis spoke with the Dolphins.

Lewis had another good day of practice on Wednesday. He faced some extremely tough competition as you would expect from the Senior.....

Jalyn Holmes is ready to solidify his draft stock at the NFL Combine this week

The senior defensive end hopes to prove his versatility among the nation’s best.

“It’s something I always watched when I was younger. I’m not going to say it’s the same as the draft (itself). But right now it’s my Super Bowl.”

-Ohio State defensive end Jalyn Holmes, via Bill Rabinowitz, The Columbus Dispatch

On a defensive line crowded with talent, senior defensive end Jalyn Holmes managed just two sacks during his final year at Ohio State last season. Those numbers, however, don’t speak to the talent that Holmes showed throughout his time in Columbus and beyond. In the Senior Bowl earlier this year, Holmes recorded an additional two sacks which helped to improve his draft stock heading into this week’s NFL Scouting Combine. Currently, Holmes is projected as a second-day pick, going somewhere in the second or third round. Many NFL teams see Holmes’ potential, but not necessarily his production, given the fact he played on such a talented line and split time with so many other future NFL prospects.

The combine offers a chance for Holmes to solidify his spot in the mind of NFL scouts. He has been working out at the EXOS facility in Phoenix since January, trying to improve his 40-yard dash time and bench press while solidifying interview skills for his sessions with scouts from individual teams. Even before those tests, however, Holmes has an advantage when it comes to his medical evaluation. Despite playing four seasons of Division I football, he has managed to remain healthy, avoiding surgery and major injury. That strong medical history certainly will help to east scouts’ minds as they evaluate Holmes as a potential fit for their teams.

2018 NFL Draft Profile — Ohio State DE Jalyn Holmes

16-11-12-FB-1136-DH.jpg

Jalyn Holmes, Defensive End | 2018 NFL Draft Profile
Ht: 6-4 7/8
Wt: 283
40: 4.82
Bench: 25

Overall Rank: No. 127
Position Rank: No. 14 Edge Rusher

Holmes has the frame and hand usage to be effective all along the defensive line, but his high pad level and slow snap reaction make him a liability for now.

STRENGTHS
• Length
• Stack and Shed
• Competitive Toughness
• Strong Hand Usage

WEAKNESSES
• Functional Strength
• Anchor
• Snap Timing
• Raw

PROJECTIONS
One-Year Projection: You can’t teach length and Holmes has an abundance of that. His ability to use his vision against the run and get his hands in the passing lanes are valuable. I see a situational pass rusher that can be lined up as a 5T in a 4-3 system, inside or in a wide-9, while providing valuable reps as a special teams contributor.

Three-Year Projection: Holmes should be a key cog in a good rotational defensive line. Double digit sacks and Pro Bowl nominations are a bit aggressive for year 3. He is still relatively raw and will need to be coached well.

SUMMARY
Former 4-star recruit out of Norfolk, Virginia, that was used effectively in multiple fronts for the Buckeyes, which include 1T, 3T, 5T, and OLB in four-, three-, and two- point stances. Frame is not maxed out, but he is incredibly long and carries his weight extremely well, with a muscular build and chiseled midsection, while having very long arms, large hands, good height, very good weight, and good athletic ability, which is displayed with his very good quickness, footspeed, lateral agility, and balance.

Good explosiveness off the line of scrimmage, when he times the snap well, and establishes good inside hand placement on the edge versus tackles. Sets the edge, while utilizing extension, and is good vs. the run, while showing a very good ability to stack and shed blocks, while constricting gaps with his lateral flow and very good mental processing. Does a good job getting horizontal and minimizing his chest. Utilizes a good combination of push-pull/arm over to use the momentum of OL and disengage base blocks. Good foot quickness and location skills, to challenge reach blocks, and uses his length to his advantage in this situation.

Good interior/edge pass-rusher with good upfield burst and violent use of hands that use power chops, clubs, swims, and flashed a solid inside spin move. Can get a bit too high and doesn’t always maximize his length. Adequate ability to time the snap and was too often one of the last ones to react. Solid change of direction and acceleration in the twist game as a DL from the 3T and the 5T position.

Solid overall play strength and can struggle with his anchor against stronger OL, when he doesn’t establish inside hand placement and use his length. Must develop more consistency to not allow his elbows to hinge, in order to avoid going chest to chest with OL, while also showing solid lower body strength and too often being turned at the line of scrimmage by stronger guards and centers. Struggled taking on down blocks as an interior defensive lineman.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME. Jalyn Holmes has been out of college for years and Chase Young just became the No. 2 overall pick, but neither are too good to spend some time getting better with their old master and mentor.

It's not a very common thing to see a player return to his college coach for more development after they make it to the league, but Larry Johnson ain't exactly your common coach.
