LOOKING AT THE BIGGEST SECOND-YEAR LEAPS OF RECENT OHIO STATE FOOTBALL PLAYERS

JOEY BOSA

Of the players on this list, Joey Bosa's leap is probably the least dramatic because he had such a strong freshman season.

In his first year in 2013, Bosa registered an extremely impressive 42 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. But the leap he made in his sophomore season was enormous for the Buckeyes.

Anchoring a defense that would go on to win a national title, Bosa tallied 55 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks. He was named a consensus first-team All American for his efforts and won both the Big Ten Defensive Linemen of the Year and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year awards.

Joey Bosa and Chargers come to terms on an NFL record five-year, $135 million extension

Joey Bosa has come to terms on a five-year, $135 million extension with the Los Angeles Chargers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Bosa's contract includes $78 million fully guaranteed at signing and $102 million guaranteed -- a new NFL record. The Chargers confirmed the news late Tuesday night. The third overall pick in the 2016 draft, Bosa has quickly become one of the top defensive ends in football. A two-time Pro Bowler, the former Ohio State Buckeye has recorded 40 sacks in his first 51 games. Last season, he received his second Pro Bowl selection after recording 11.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss.
