DE Nick Bosa (Pro Bowl, All Pro, 2019 ROY, 2022 DPOY, San Francisco 49ers)

One of my co-workers (TTUN fan) came into my office talking about Bosa leaving and that ESPiN stated Bosa said something along the lines of not wanting to play for a coach that values wins over health. Nobody linked it here and no way I visit the worldwide leader. Was he full of shit?

ask him if brady hoke started coaching at Ohio State recently and walk away.

I was thinking that this decision was made by his father, and his comments confirm that. I had a feeling this would happen with his fathers initial comments after the injury. He’s a smart business man helping his son make smart business decisions. I think if nick were to make the decision alone he would be attempting to return. I also think IF he’s healthy he will regret the decision when he’s watching the ttun game and possibly the playoffs from LA.

Just saying I’m sure nick loves his brothers and wants nothing more than to battle with them. His father helped him take the emotion out of the decision.

We'll never know for sure, but if I had to guess, I'd guess the same. Recall, he's the same dad who forbid Joey from doing back-flips. And, frankly... if I were in the same shoes... I'd likely have a "you can do a back-flip after the ink is dried, provided there are no provisions in your contract prohibiting you from doing so... oh, and you may want to wait until after your second contract's ink is dry."

Don't begrudge the decision one bit.

Now knowing that Nick was playing with a partial tear all year, I wouldn’t have even let him play until he was fully healed if he was my son. If he needed the film for the draft I understand. For an almost guaranteed Top 5 pick? Naw man.

I think I'm the only one here that would disagree with this. I don't know the x's and o's as much as many others on here who will probably straighten out my thoughts, but I did not think he was a guaranteed top 5 pick before the year started.

I think they've done a great job of marketing him as the second coming of Joey, same number, similar twitter handle, did the shrug for a while. Whereas most little brothers I see that play this game try to make their own name and separate themselves, he very much mimicked his brother. Very smart, because Joey was the best DE ever to wear the S&G.

Nick was great last year, but Hubbard and even Lewis seemed to be at least as equally intimidating. I would even say Hubbard was the star of our D Line. Then this year take away Hubbard and Lewis and Holmes and the D line was still not as impressive. Nick could not carry the line like Joey did. Against the weak opponents they were great, but TCU for the most part neutralized the line, and that was all we've seen of Nick.

I think Nick was on pace, with a great year to be a top 5 pick or even 1st non-qb selected, but I thought he needed the year to do that. His talent and work ethic and name will carry a lot in the Draft. People will be afraid to miss on 'the next Bosa' so he'll go top-10. He might even go top-5 because of the potential, but right now he's not the player his brother was as a Junior. Even Joey at the end of his Sophmore year was more impressive than Nick weeks 1,2,3 this year. Not necessarily the stats, but watching those games Joey was more imposing. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's just what my eyes tell me.

It's just a biz decision....
He's already proven his value, so he's kind of reached the ceiling. By playing he risks getting seriously injured and his value/career could plummet to near zero. I don't like it as a fan, but I understand it and can't blame him for it. I do think it could hurt his draft value a little bit though by not playing, but perhaps not enough to keep him playing.

@Bestbuck36 called it in the TCU game thread within a couple of minutes...

That would effectively be the season...

The decision sits well with me. If I was Papa Bosa, I'd push for the same thing. Gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em and all that...

What doesn't sit well with me is the fact that a future Hall-of-Famer's Buckeye career got flushed down the toilet on a play where he was literally tackled to the ground. It's one thing to go down in a fair fight, but an altogether different thing to get taken out on a dirty dirty play. I get that that's what comes with the territory, but damn... it doesn't take any of the sting away.

Austin Myers, edfinancial.com and whatnot...
