Tyquan Lewis Sitting Out Spring After Playing Entire Last Season With Shoulder Injury

When the 2015 football season began everyone knew who defensive end Joey Bosa was.

It wasn't quite the same for the other starting defensive end, Tyquan Lewis.

Lewis backed up Steve Miller in 2014 but won the starting role in 2015. All he did was finish the season sixth on the team in tackles, first on the team in sacks with 8.5, and second on the team in tackles for loss with 14.

Lewis had a great first season as a starter, which is made more remarkable by the fact that he played the entire season with a serious injury.

Lewis told reporters on Thursday that he underwent surgery in January to repair a torn labrum as well as to repair some bone injuries in his shoulder. He sustained the injury in spring drills last year but played the entire season before having surgery.

"It was just some shoulder problems, my labrum and some bone stuff," Lewis said matter of factually.

"I was in rehab every day (during the season). I was just grinding it out."

WHY TYQUAN LEWIS CHOSE OHIO STATE OVER CLEMSON

Hailing from ACC basketball country in Tarboro, North Carolina, Ohio State junior defensive end Tyquan Lewis grew up a mere six hours from Clemson.

From his sophomore to senior year at Tarboro High School, he visited the South Carolinian city more times than he can remember. Before his senior season, there was no other program in the country more familiar to the four-star defensive end than Clemson.

Yet when the dust around his recruitment settled, he chose to attend Ohio State.

Only one program employed Urban Meyer, which was a branding achievement considering Lewis' mom, Tyronda Whitaker, didn't know who the then-two-time champion was when her son's recruitment started.
