Defensive Coordinator/LSU

An article in the Dispatch says Snyder may have interviewed for the position. LSU is getting very desperate, their first three candidates turned them down. I wouldn't be surprised if they offered him the job.

I like Snyder, but I wouldn't be crushed to see him go either. He did make some nice defensive adjustments for the final two games, but what took so long? If he leaves, I think Tucker could step right in and not skip a beat. In the long run, I think Tucker is much more valuable than Snyder. Especially considering that Tucker has the Cleveland connections, while hh has said numerous times that Snyder has not done a great job of recruiting Florida.

As far as recruiting goes, the three names other than Tressel you always here from recruits are Tucker, Fickell, and Hazell. My only concern would possibly be going through the early season growing pains on defense that we saw last year but with the talent, experience, and leadership we have coming back, this may be the best year for a change.

Football...

One OSU football coach appears to be considering a move to LSU. According to reports out of Baton Rogue, Ohio State Defensive Coordinator Mark Snyder has interviewed for the same position with the Tigers.

If he were going there to join Tressel, Saban, Stoops or someone of that calibre, then I guess I could understand, but to join Les Miles? Maybe I'm the fool, but it sounds like taking a trip on the Good Ship Lollipop with a NC in line at OSU. Why would you want to go somewhere on a three loss team and watch your old team have one helluva year without you? What would that say about your contribution?

You guys are closer to this than I, but it sounds like you won't be cutting your wrists if he goes. Does that mean you think that Tucker can do it alone (and maybe is pushing him out the door)?

Snyder to LSU??? This just doesn't make sense to me. Why would an Ohio guy... who has been at Ohio State for a while, move latterally? Yeah he is listed as the "co" defensive coordinator... but isn't he the main guy? This just doesn't make sense. Especially since we are on the verge of being Top 5 for next year where LSU, while talented, is a year or two away from being back in the national title hunt?

This just doesn't pass the smell test. Either this report is false, maybe Snyder does not want to be in a program that is perceived to be in trouble with the NCAA (which I doubt), or maybe Tressel knows he cannot keep both Snyder & Tucker as he will eventually lose one, and has encouraged Snyder to look for other jobs because Tucker has more promise. Remember, the rumor in Athens was Tressel was really pushing Snyder to interview for the head job at Ohio University before they got Solich. Just a theory I rack around in my brains so I can avoid work.

The fact that Snyder is an Ohio guy is why this is interesting. I think the fact that Tressel/Geiger/OSU gave him permission to interview for a job that is a lateral move at best (despite the increase in $$$), considering it is the same position at a school that is no more prestigious than OSU, is noteworthy. If they were concerned about holding onto Mark, would they have let him interview?

I don't think JT would stand in the way of somebody looking for a new job. He seems like the type of guy that would let a coach make is own decision about what's best for him. Any chance LSU needs an OC/OL coach? :p

I agree...and I also would not be too upset if Snyder did take the job. He did seem to adapt his playcalling to the players the last few games of the season, but I wouldn't call the season overall a success from a defensive standpoint.

I don't think we are that lucky with Bollman...

there would have to be a reason for for him to want to interview. Who knows what it is. There are multiple reasons, but the first thing that gets me to consider taking a new job is more cash.
