Utah has agreed to trade All-Star point guard Deron Williams to Nets in multi-player package, Yahoo! Sports has learned. Deal is done.

http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nba/news/story?id=6150419

The New Jersey Nets are trying to rebound from the disappointment of their failed pursuit of Carmelo Anthony by swinging a blockbuster trade for the Utah Jazz's Deron Williams before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET deadline, sources said on Wednesday.
The Nets and Jazz, sources said, are closing in on a multi-team trade that would send Williams to New Jersey, with the Nets' Derrick Favors and Devin Harris going to Utah.
The deal, scheduled for completion later Wednesday after a trade call with the league office, would also involve the Golden State Warriors and bring multiple draft picks to Utah.
Just Tuesday night, the Dallas Mavericks were talking to the Nets about re-acquiring Harris, according to sources. The Mavericks had shown interest in the point guard in January and told the Nets the sides should talk again if New Jersey didn't ship him out in a Carmelo Anthony trade.
Sources said Dallas turned down a New Jersey proposal of Harris for Caron Butler, Mavs rookie Dominique Jones and a first-round pick.

I never understood why the Mavs traded away Harris in the first place anyway.

Wtf are the nets thinking? I'd take Favors and Harris over Williams any day of the week. Utah wins in this situation. Maybe Jerry Sloan will come back now as well.

i disagree...williams is possibly the best point guard in the NBA...you could argue chris paul, rondo, etc. but either way williams is in that discussion...your trading devin harris, who is having a good year by his standards because he has only missed i think 2 games so far...the guy is a injury waiting to happen..he hasnt played a full season since 06-07....favors is a project and would of benefited if Sloan was still the head coach...and you have to wonder what his deal was in NJ, he is putting up just OK numbers in NEW JERSEY, a place where you should do alot better when averaging 20 minutes a game...but if im Utah im hoping he is the key to this trade since he obviously has the most upside...the jazz also get 2 first round picks which are nice, but no word on wether or not they are protected (doesnt matter all that much, they are coming from NJ)....but the nets are receiving a true top 3 talent PG, who some experts are arguing is a better acquisition then getting carmelo anthony...in the nets situation that is debatable but i still think overall its a good move for the nets

My reaction to this is already posted somewhere in the LeBron thread, I'm sure.

Keep the teams in Boston, New York, Miami, Orlando, Chicago, Dallas & LA. Maybe keep Phoenix, Atlanta & Philadelphia too if you must. Have the remaining franchises draw straws to see who gets to move to Las Vegas. Contract the rest of them - nobody with talent wants to play there because the clubs suck and you can't live the VH1 lifestyle. Get rid of the draft too - even if you eliminate the possiblity of wannabe celebrities languishing in flyover country, players are just going to turn themselves into a cancer until they get to hook up with their buddies anyway.

The only thing that remains enjoyable about this league is watching it circle the bowl.

It comes down to having a Superstar to build around, vs. having good players. They need Williams, along with Lopez to attract other players. Nets did what they had to, and I think it's a great move, you get one of the top 2 or 3 point guards in the league. They also have a face of the team in the largest market... something they need to build, the "Nets brand" D-Will + New Arena = more of a fan base.

 Harris, Favors, AND 2 first round draft picks (which will probably be decent picks)

no wonder the nets are so horrid

It's Prokhorov's brilliant business mind at work, I guess. :roll2:. You know, the guy who, like a child who didn't get his way, came out and said that the Nets were no longer pursuing Carmelo. Then last weekend when reports surfaced that Prokhorov and Carmelo met again and Prokhorov realized he would have egg on his face if he didn't land Carmelo, he claimed that he wasn't really interested in Carmelo but was only bluffing so that the Knicks would have to pay more. Right. Is there any less likeable guy in management in the NBA right now? And that's to say nothing of his ridiculous claim that the Nets (yes, the Nets) will win the NBA title in the next 4 years.. What a clown.

utah gets NJ's pick this year, which is unprotected, and the Golden State pick next year, which is only top 6 protected. those are pretty valuable picks.

many of these teams trying to put together their NBA AAU squads are going to be in for a rude awakening once the next CBA is hammered out. A hard cap, and a player franchise tag option, along with the elimination of the MLE. Good luck trying to fill roster spots 4-13 with that.

For those that think this trade was a good one for the Nets, did you know that Williams is eligible for free agency after next season? Guess who's not? Favors and those two first-round picks.

I'd assume the trade won't happen without some sort of extension agreement, or the feeling that they will come to an agreement. The Nets can give D-Will a max contract in the largest market, win win.
