DiHard's Picks for Oct 23

TOP MATCHUPS
OCTOBER 23
Not an all bad week for ole DiHard last week….in the game of the week I predicted the Badgers to not only beat the spread, but to flat-out upset Purdue by 4 in W.La….The Badgers only won by three, but close nonetheless. I also said that Louisville beating Miami could be the upset of the week….close again, but no cigar there.
On to this weekends matchups….after two weeks of great games, this week does not have even one marquee game. Usually, this is about the time of year and the type of weeks boring schedule that results in what we call Upset Saturday. If I am Oklahoma…I am worried about Kansas, If I am Florida State… I am scared of Wake and If I am Miami…I am frightened to death of NC State.

Game of the Week: Michigan @ Purdue

Spread: Purdue –4
The Game: As much as it pains me to say this…Michigan is just getting no respect at all this year. The Wolverines are a young, young team that is just getting better as each week passes…while Purdue is starting to go just the way I thought they would now that the BigTen season is under way…straight down to the middle-of-the-pack. Why some consider the Boilers a “traditional” BigTen power is beyond me.
My Prediction: Michigan by 6
Why: Michigan is 12-2 the last 14 against Purdue…on Sunday they will be 13-2 over the last 15. Kyle Orton’s heisman chances, after this weekend, will be going downhill faster than Jim Bollman’s career. Personally, I will be surprised if Purdue can keep it under six.
Would I bet on this game: No, I would be dead before I bet for SCUM.

Game 2: MIAMI, FL @ NC STATE
Spread: Miami –7 1/2
The Game: The first ACC matchup of these two squads. Defense will clearly be the MO Saturday at noon….the first team to score just may win this game. Am I the only one who is just sick and tired of Miami being described as winners because they win games close, while the “Luckeyes” were singed by the same voters and members of the media? Kill em all I say. The health of TA is not as much of a factor in this game as some may espouse, the motivation of the Pack’s freshman RB Washington will be a factor.
My Prediction: Miami by 4
Why: NCState just isn’t all that good….and neither is Miami. However; Miami knows how to win and the Wolfpack make Bill Buckner look like a gamer. This will end up being a defensive slugfest with the Hurricanes holding on late.
Would I bet on this game: No, neither offense is safe enough to bet on.

Game 3: TEXAS @ TEXAS TECH
Spread: Tejas – 2 1/2
The Game: I know Tech has played Texas close the past couple of years…but 2 ½ is crazy. I mean this is a Tech team that has beaten nobody, lost to N.Mexico and held on for a one point win over mighty Kansas. The only thing the Red Raiders have going for them is the fact that this game is the biggest of the year for them, while for Texas, it is just another game.
My Prediction: Texas by 8
Why: This is not as good of a Texas Tech team as they have fielded the past couple of years and this version of Texas is much tougher and better than it has been in years. Texas runs over, around and through the Raiders to take control of the game early and cruise to a victory
Would I bet on this game: Yes. This is a good Tejas team…

Game 4: INDIANA @ OHIO STATE

Spread: tOSU -14
The Game: Ohio State favored by 14…how in the world are they even going to score 14, let alone cover 14. Give me a break. I know that Indiana has the worst defense this side of Britany Spears in a room full of male dancers, but 14 is just too high. On a positive note, this is just the type of team that Troy Smith can go crazy against and spiral the Buckeyes Quarterback controversy into total chaos.
My Prediction: Ohio State by 2
Why: Flydell owns Indiana. Period. This will be a game where the TOSU actually entertains the faithful with a fun game to watch that ends with the Buckeyes getting a late turnover to seal the victory.
Would I bet on this game: I’m not betting on the Buckeyes for awhile.
Season Record Straight Up: 21-11
Season Record v. the spread: 17-15
