We should have a list of "individual rights are more important than national security" believers we can call in to fly standby on such a flight.

I had a guy go through airport security in front of me (in DTW) with an artifical foot. He reminded the security guy that he didn't have to take off that shoe. The guy scanned it with the wand and of course (having no metal parts) it was clean. I remember thinking... "Of course it could have been stuffed with C4 and the guy behind me could have the timing device hidden in electronics in his camera, pda, cell phone, laptop, etc.".

Our airport security has gaping holes and they will be exposed again.

That is really scary.

All of this "civil rights" bullshit has got to go. The game has changed- if you're looking and acting suspiciously, you should be checked out. Period.

I'll tell you what really pisses me off. People in our country making all of this noise about civil rights and discrimination when referring to incidents like this. People like the ones in this story aren't even American citizens! Why are we so worried about them getting every benefit (and then some) of our American system? We're worried about their "rights" here in our country?

Do foreigners have rights here? Sure. They should be able to visit and walk around without trouble just like the rest of us. Until they start killing us. Until they start researching our country's vulnerable spots for potential attacks. Until they start acting suspicious on airplanes full of Americans.

I believe that there are plenty of good Arab and Muslim people out there- probably the vast majority mean us no harm. Unfortunately, the good ones get stuck in the middle of this. It may seem harsh, but until we can be sure that the terrorists are under control we need to crack down on certain people, even if that means we have to use words like "profiling" or "stereotype". If not, more of us will die right here in our own backyard.

No kdding-the people who whine about this kind of stuff have obviously never been through a situation like this woman on the plane. The scary thing now is that these assholes will just detonate themselves on a plane-not hijack it.

Just for the record, I have ZERO qualms about racial profiling. Hello, it's called police work. I've been full strip searched and interviewed at DC National because I fit some kind of profile (apparently, rugby-playing lawyers from the South are something of a global problem). Huge pain in the ass, almost literally, and I almost missed my flight, but dems da breaks, dems da times.

Absolutely you profile. That is one of the things that I think this administration has been silly about. If Norm Mineta weren't overly sensitive about appearing to repeat the mistakes of the interrment of Japanese-Americans, we wouldn't be reading stories like this. The man is risking national security for political correctness.

Bingo! I could gave a shit if it "offends" anyone else. If you look like a potential problem, then you need to be checked out. One thing that confuses me is why none of the flight crew checked the restrooms after the McDonald's bag dude apparently emptied his stash.

The thing that I do not understand is why the airline allowed them to keep going to the bathroom in groups. If they realized that something strange was going on, they should have had the seatbelts signs on and the air marshalls on full alert.
