Aurora' s Adam Bellamy is one of the finalist for The Plain Dealer's Gridiron Hero contest.

Here's how they did in Week 10
Adam Bellamy, Aurora: The Ohio State recruit, a senior defensive end / offensive tackle, finished the regular season with 27 solo tackles, 21 assists, four sacks, six quarterback hurries, eight tackles behind the line of scrimmage, one fumble recovery and one caused fumble. His blocking efficiency was 93 percent. In Friday's 47-19 victory over Wickliffe, in which he saw limited duty, he had two solo tackles, one assist and one tackle for a loss and equaled his blocking efficiency.

Football skills courtesy of hockey carry-over

Tuesday, November 18, 2008
Adam Bellamy heard the sto ries about Ohio long before he moved here.
"They told me as soon as I got here they'd throw a football helmet on me," Bellamy said.
Let them try, he thought. He was a hockey player. Bet ter yet, he was a Massachusetts hockey player from Worcester, where hockey is a 12-month sport starting at age 6. There was no room for football in his life.
Even after his family settled in Aurora and eighth grade was about to start, he resisted. He had his eye on two select hockey travel teams.
But the easygoing, fun-loving Bellamy already had made many neighborhood friends, and they played football. If he had brothers, it might have been different. Hockey brothers stick together and rarely let other sports come between them and the ice. But he has a younger sister, and he wanted to be with his buddies, so he decided to give eighth-grade football a try.
The hook was set. He and Ohio are better for it.
Bellamy, a senior offensive tackle and defensive lineman, leads Aurora into the Division III state semifinals this weekend as one of Ohio's most highly regarded linemen. He accepted a scholarship offer last June from Ohio State, where at a camp, Bellamy's agility, speed and natural strength blew coaches away.
They should see him skate.

Determined Greenmen bounce Big Walnut to advance to state championship - cleveland.com

They have given themselves a shot because of players such as tailback Steven Yung, quarterback Brendan Gallagher and receivers Dee Brizzolara and Steve Snyder. And, they have given themselves a shot because of defensive guys such as end Adam Bellamy, tackle Kevin Carroll and linebackers Charley Haney and Brendan Connolly. All were major contributors.

Bellamy, an OSU recruit, led the Greenmen with seven solo tackles and was the lead blocker on many of their rushing plays. Connolly had six solos and Haney had five.

Humble Bellamy puts it on line Blocking of Aurora's talented senior helps Greenmen get to state
By Jonas Fortune

AURORA: It has been a whirlwind week for the Aurora High football team. Clinching a spot in its first Division III state championship game quickly can do that to a school.
The Greenmen (11-2) will play in their first state-championship game Saturday, when they meet Columbus Eastmoor Academy (12-1) at 11 a.m. at Fawcett Stadium in Canton.
Just as unsuspecting as the Greenmen were for a surprise title run, their mammoth star, senior Adam Bellamy, is every bit the same.
''He is just a humble, quiet, unassuming young man,'' Aurora coach Bob Mihalik said. ''We can call him Opie Taylor.''
That's off the field, though.
On the field, the two-way lineman bares little resemblance to The Andy Griffith Show character. His red hair ? sitting atop his 6-foot-4, 285-pound frame ? is hidden underneath his helmet, after all.
The play of Bellamy is no secret to area football fans, though. He has drawn plenty of attention from universities requesting his future services. Before accepting a scholarship to play for Ohio State next season, Bellamy, who also is an excellent student, had drawn offers from 24 schools, including Michigan and Notre Dame.
''The problem was I had all these great schools and I didn't know where to choose,'' Bellamy said.

Aurora state championship game is on STO right now. Adam is all over the place on D, but the Greenmen are way overclassed in speed. Their offense hasn't done anything yet. It's going to take some good coaching for them to have a shot.
Who's big idea was it to give a Columbus city league team a scum helmet?

This was good today, Adam got some early experience beating the crap out of an opponent wearing a winged helmet. The last I saw Aurora was up 21-10 in the second half. I was kind of surprised that Aurora, which is a pretty affluent
suburb made it this far.
