DL Adam Bellamy (R.I.P.)

Pretty safe to say that it's not "if" but "when"...

Looks like I was a little late but here's the story. This morning the team had their annual clinic they put on for the younger kids where elementary and middle school kids come and the players and coaches run a camp where the players do all the coaching. During the camp, Tressel called and left a message in the head coach's office casking Bellamy to give him a call on his cell. Bellamy did and Tressel told him his offer was in the mail. I was working and heard this around noonish maybe a little after. After I was done with work I was hanging around the high school camp which was also today, and I got a second to talk to him. He was wearing an OSU shirt and he said basically he wants to talk to his parents about it, but he thinks he'll pull the trigger sometime soon.

As some others on here would say, get the bananas warmed up...

Uh, even when Bellamy pulls the trigger the staff would make room for Corey Adams. You don't say "No" to a national top-8 DT (#7 DT per Scout, #8 DT per Rivals) with Ohio ties.

With all the other needs (TE, Saftey, DE, RB etc.) and all the players we are in on, how do you make room? Greyshirt? Here are those i think we have a decent shot at:

Carter
Brown
Emilien
Muldoon
Hall
Watt
Berry
Newsome
McDougle
Green
Hyde

Not even counting

McGee
Sims
Adams
Any other TE
EJ Banks

So, where do we make room?

You named 11 in your "decent shot" list (which was a good list, IMHO), which is about right for the remainder of the class. There are often ways to get 1 or 2 more guys in a class, not to mention, we never know how those 11 will work out. Only 1 or 2 of your "decent shots" has to go elsewhere.

What I'm basically saying is, trust the coaches on this one.

Back to Adam - I should have mentioned above, that I LOVE this offer at DT. I was really excited when I heard that the coaches communicated that they wanted to use him on D (and that he's on board).

There are a limited amount of slots set aside for the three categories: Speed, Big Speed, and Power. Most are first-come, first-served (a few slots are being held aside, but only a few).

We have six slots left right now. I'm guessing we get Berry and Carter...maybe Emilien. That covers RB, WR, and DB needs. Bellamy will pull the trigger fairly quickly...that covers one DT need (we already have two DEs in Simon and Fellows, so we're set there). That leaves two slots to fill whatever needs left that staff feels are most important. Oh, forgot...we have a really good shot at Marcus Hall, which would leave one slot left (and may leave Corey Adams out in the cold).

I trust the coaches MililaniBuckeye. This is a great situation to be in. I would hate to turn away some of these prospects. Adams in particular. It's a great time to be a Buckeye! :) Bellamy would be a nice pickup. Like most JT recruits he can play DL and OL.....

What really jumps out at you about Adam on film is his speed and motor for a kid of his size. You would think he's a run stuffer based on his measurables, but on film, he sheads his blockers, ATTACKS the ball, and doesn't give up on the play. The kid plays fast. The staff wanted to see him in person doing what he was doing on that film, and they saw enough at camp to tell him his offer is in the mail.

Fan favorites are made the way Adam has come around: completely unknown local commodity that worked hard enough to earn the coveted OSU offer. Gonna be fun seeing how long it'll take until the title of this thread changes.

It does make us feel good that Adam got his offer. We all have guys that we root for in this process. I am glad that another Ohio boy will have a chance to reach the pinnacle and play for the Buckeyes if he so decides. Historically, the staff has had an excellent track record with players that earned a camp offer. I would expect Adam to be a solid contributor to the Defense in a couple of years.

I think Muldoon can kiss his spot goodbye (not to be mean) if Bellamy announces before him.

Edit: I know people are saying Muldoon is playing a different position, but unless we're telling Adams and Ezell no, then I think Muldoon's spot is about to be taken. But what do I know?

looks like there are 21 or 22 spots available at the moment. Don't see much reason why 5-6 spots won't come open because of early NFL guys (Beanie + whoever else), regular attrition through transfer because of being buried on the depth chart or maybe another Alex Barrow situation (not likely as that's kind of rare)...not to mention there the 1 or 2 repeat doghouse offenders that could be on thinner ice than the rest (emphasis on could).

I don't know...but thinking that 5 or 6 more spots from the current 21/22 that are open doesn't seem that outlandish from where I sit. This time last year, who would have thought the 2008 class was going to reach 20 when there was only 1 early NFL guy?

Not that my opinion matters much...just throwing in my $.02

Uh, where are they going to put them? How about telling us how they're going to fit 26 or more commits...
I'm not sure that's there responsibility. Just because you can't see how they fit doesn't mean the staff doesn't. Trusted insiders on this board are saying as high as 26/ 27 with LJB even saying 25 and he's conservative. You're only picking on people regurgitating the inside information. When Hotmic quoted you and begged to differ you ignored him. The word from the inside (apparently) is higher than your number. Weren't you wondering how we were going to fit the class last year too? Or you do like getting in arguments just because you can?
