DL Darrion Scott (official thread)

Darrion Scott Wants Another Chance
Posted by Mike Florio on March 27, 2009

Former Vikings defensive end Darrion Scott has been exiled from the NFL for more than a year, thanks to bizarre allegations of child abuse involving his two-year-old son.

But Scott wants another chance, according to Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Scott ultimately received a three-game suspension after pleading guilty to a gross misdemeanor charge of child endangerment, which were filed after the mother of Scott?s son found Scott holding a plastic bag over the boy?s head.

Even now, Scott?s explanation sounds implausible.

He says that he was putting the bag over his own head, and that it scared the boy. So Scott put the bag over the boy?s head in order to show him not to be afraid. And then the boy started squirming and the bag got stuck on the boy?s chin as Scott was trying to remove it.

Then there?s the fact that Scott was keeping a loaded .50-caliber gun in an unlocked nightstand, which the boy could access.

But even though Scott and his agent are saying all the right things, getting a second chance without first-tier talent has proven to be very difficult.

?When the question comes up, ?Are you absolutely sure nothing else is going to happen?? How can I be sure?? said Brian Baker, Scott?s former position coach in Minnesota, who now works for the Panthers.

?I think the chance of him doing something else silly, if he gets another chance, is far, far less,? Baker said. ?It would be a surprise, but I can?t swear that it won?t happen again.?

Redskins signed DL Darrion Scott, formerly of the Vikings.

Scott, 28, hasn't been heard from since serving a three-game suspension to open the 2008 season for violating the NFL's conduct code. His listed size was 6'3/289, so Scott figures to play end in the Skins' 3-4 scheme. The former Ohio State Buckeye's best season was '06, when he had 5.5 sacks.

Redskins sign Darrion Scott, adding to the defensive line

The Redskins have signed yet another veteran defensive linemen, agreeing to terms with Darrion Scott, a defensive end who has been out of the league for two seasons, the team announced.according to a Sirius Radio report. Scott formerly played with Minnesota but spent last year in the United Football League.

Scott was a third-round draft pick by the Vikings in 2004 and played there until 2008, compiling 128 tackles and 9 1/2 sacks during that time. He spent last season playing with the UFL's Florida Tuskers, coached by Jim Haslett, the Redskins' new defensive coordinator.

In July 2008, Scott pleaded guilty to child endangerment for which he received a two-year stayed sentence.

Scott, an Ohio State product, is listed as a 6-foot-3, 289-pound defensive end.

The Redskins have stockpiled these veterans defensive linemen with the hopes that a couple could again make an impact in the league. Scott is the sixth veteran they've added to the D-line the past several weeks.

They previously traded for Adam Carriker and signed free agent contracts with Howard Green, Anthony Bryant, Maake Kemoeatu and Greg Peterson.

Redskins re-signed DL Darrion Scott.
Scott was with the Redskins in training camp but was cut just before the season began. The four-year veteran will provide depth with Ma'ake Kemoeatu landing on injured reserve.

Defensive line (7)

Looking good: NT Barry Cofield, DEs Stephen Bowen, Adam Carriker, Jarvis Jenkins, Kedric Golston are on the team. NT Anthony Bryant is a solid backup.

On the bubble: DEs Darrion Scott, Jeff Stehle, Doug Worthington, NT Chris Neild, Thomas Weaver.

Thoughts: Those four bubble players likely are battling for one spot, but it would be surprising to see the team carry three nose tackles, so while Neild ? the seventh-round draft pick out of West Virginia ? has looked solid, he?s likely headed to the practice squad. Scott is the only player of that group with real experience to speak of, although Worthington is intriguing.

Jarvis Jenkins ACL injury a big blow to Redskins? D-line depth
By Mike Jones

The Washington Redskins were dealt a huge blow with the news that rookie defensive end Jarvis Jenkins likely is lost for the season with a torn ACL.

Drafted 41st overall out of Clemson in April, the 6-foot-4, 325-pound Jenkins was expected to play a key role along the team?s defensive front. This preseason, he had started two games at left end, seen time at right defensive end and also was included in the team?s nickel packages.

Of all of the 12 players drafted, Jenkins had had the best training camp and preseason, and he was making an immediate impact.

Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett believed that with a rotation of Jenkins and Adam Carriker at left end, nose tackle Barry Cofield and Stephen Bowen and Kedric Golston at right end, Washington would have ?a real formidable? defensive front.

Jenkins on Thursday night had made his second straight start at left end with Carriker sidelined with blisters on his heels.

Now an opening has been created along the line.

Darrion Scott and Doug Worthington are the two other defensive ends currently on the roster that likely will compete for that spot behind Carriker.

Scott ? a 6-foot-3, 310-pound fifth-year veteran ? immediately took Jenkins? place at left end and recorded one quarterback pressure, but didn?t have any tackles. Worthington ? a 6-foot-5, 292-pound, second-year player ? also lined up at the spot and recorded a tackle.

The Redskins have to cut nine players by Tuesday, but they could look to bring in another defensive end to evaluate.

Kedric Golston and Darrion Scott won?t be Jenkins, but both can help. Scott did a decent job facing the Ravens? starters. He can occupy blockers. Saw him take two guys one time to allow Fox a clean path to the tackle. Golston is an effort guy; did not play as well last year as he did as a 4-3 tackle. There is a talent dropoff from Jenkins. But both guys know how to play the position. Yes, they'll look for other options. But it's not like other teams are going to rid themselves of good D-linemen. What you'll likely find are more Golstons and Scotts.

Kedric Golston to IR; Darrion Scott to re-sign
By Mike Jones

The Washington Redskins will place defensive end Kedric Golston on injured reserve with a third-degree MCL tear and a partially torn ACL, and also will re-sign defensive end Darrion Scott, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

Golston suffered the injury in the third quarter of the Redskins 20-9 loss. The sixth-year pro out of Georgia, who has spent all of his career with the Redskins, had 16 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble this season.

Scott opened the season on Washington?s 53-man roster, but was inactive for all of the team?s games. Last Tuesday the team cut him and signed free agent Kentwan Balmer, who made a brief appearance in Sunday?s game.

Scott, a fifth-year pro and former Ohio State standout, appeared in two games for Washington last season.

Journeyman Scott gets his chance
December 4, 2011

6a015432d86661970c015437d1f645970c-320wi

Defensive lineman Darrion Scott is expected to be in uniform for a third straight game when the Redskins play the New York Jets on Sunday. This after he was a healthy scratch for the first eight games, he was released and re-signed a week later.

In the two games since his return, Scott has played 41 snaps and the coaches have credited him with five tackles.

?I think he?s done well,? defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said. ?Scotty is a solid player. He got caught up in the numbers game. ? You know what you?re going to get from him. He gives great effort.?

Scott, a third-round pick by Minnesota seven years ago, played for Haslett with the UFL?s Florida Tuskers in 2009 and is seeing his first significant NFL action in five years.

?One can only imagine,? he said of seeing regular playing time. ?Not dress the whole season, get released and then come back, it?s been one of the best feelings I?ve had in a long time.

?The biggest thing for me is having a chance to play. As far as my future here, I have no clue, but to have this opportunity, it could extend my career a little bit.?

Scott started 28 games for the Vikings in 2005-06 (9.5 sacks), but battled injuries for two years. He was in camp with the Redskins last year, re-signed last December, made this year?s opening roster but didn?t get a chance to play.

When he was cut last month, Scott said he thought his season was over.

?Honestly, I did because I hadn?t put any games on film or games that counted on film,? he said.

Scott could see more playing time against the Jets because Stephen Bowen missed most of practice this week with a knee injury.
