DL David Patterson (Official Thread)

That would be nice for Joel, but I would think that Denlinger would get more snaps. He's really been a load to block this year.
I saw both Penton and Denlinger in there. I dont know how much they played. The Bucks will have a chance to rest a lot of people over the next few weeks. What was Barton's injury? I never heard about it.

Barton re-aggravated a sprained foot. Should be no big deal if he takes a week or two off.

By the way, Patterson has right knee surgery

Wednesday, October 11, 2006 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- Ohio State defensive tackle David Patterson had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Tuesday, his mother, Leesa, said Tuesday night.
Coach Jim Tressel said during his weekly news conference Tuesday only that Patterson was expected to miss Saturday's game at Michigan State but did not mention the surgery. Asked if Patterson would be back for the Indiana game on Oct. 21, Tressel said, "That's still what we have as a goal."
Patterson's mother said she was told the plan was to have Patterson back at 100 percent for the home game with Minnesota on Oct. 28. She also said doctors initially thought her son had a slight tear in his meniscus, but surgery revealed only a sprained knee ligament, the MCL.
"It's definitely not an end-of-the-season kind of thing," she said. "We want to make sure when he does come back on the field, he's at his best. They said he can be a coach on the sideline, so he's in good spirits."
Patterson said after Saturday's game against Bowling Green he suffered the injury when his foot stuck in the turf while he was working against an offensive lineman. Michigan receiver Mario Manningham had a similar surgery on Tuesday.
Tressel said senior Joel Penton, who has seen regular action at defensive tackle, would start in Patterson's place. Freshman Todd Denlinger will be the primary backup at tackle, while freshman Doug Worthington, who has been practicing at defensive end and defensive tackle, would also see work inside.
"It's a key loss," said Quinn Pitcock, Patterson's fellow senior and captain at defensive tackle. "But Joel and Todd have been in the rotation all year. I think Doug, with his long arms and his size, he can definitely be a factor. He's probably the guy since the season started, he's been the most improved. He wants to play, and he could be a factor."

Hopefully this can be a blessing in disguise, by not having Patterson it gives some of the younger guys a change to really step it up. The only way that it will be blessing though is if he is back and healthy for Michigan.

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State defensive tackle and co-captain David Patterson will be sidelined for the second straight game while mending from arthroscopic knee surgery Oct. 10.
"If there wasn't such a long season left ? if he was just going to go two games and have a month rest ? you might push the envelope a little bit," coach Jim Tressel said. "But we've got such a long grind ahead of us."
News and notes
? Jack Nicklaus will dot the "i" when the marching band performs Script Ohio at the Minnesota game Oct. 28.
The golfing great redesigned the OSU Scarlet Course, finishing last spring and charging the school only $1.
"They said he came back eight or 10 times and didn't charge a dime," said Tressel, who added that he's met Nicklaus a couple of times. "It was a work of passion for him. He wanted it to be the best."
Woody Hayes dotted the "i" after his coaching days, as did comedian Bob Hope.
? OSU sophomore James Laurinaitis was named one of 10 semifinalists for the Butkus Award, which is given to the nation's top linebacker.
Laurinaitis leads the Big Ten in interceptions with four and the Buckeyes in tackles with 59.
Penn State's Paul Posluszny, who won it last year, and Michigan's David Harris, also are semifinalists.

By Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter

Columbus? Starting senior defensive tackle David Patterson will miss his second straight game when he sits out against Indiana on Saturday, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said Thursday evening.

Patterson had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee after spraining a knee ligament against Bowling Green on Oct. 7.

?If there weren?t such a long season left, if you had just a game or two, you might push the envelope a little bit,?? Tressel said. ?We?ve got a long grind ahead of us.??

Senior Joel Penton will start in Patterson?s place, while linebacker Curtis Terry should see more time as a defensive lineman in passing downs, as he did last week against Michigan State.
