DE Jaylahn (JT) Tuimoloau (Owner, Giant Erector Set, All B1G)

OHIO STATE DEFENSIVE LINE COULD BE SPECIAL AFTER 2021 RECRUITING DOMINANCE

What Tuimoloau’s decision concludes for fans, though, is simple: Even given five months extra time to think it over and take official visits, he chose to play not at a school where he can win championships or where he can earn a spot in the first round of the NFL Draft or where he win a College Football Playoff national championship – but where he can accomplish all three at once.

To date, there are only four schools that have demonstrated they can provide all three: Ohio State, Clemson, LSU and Alabama.

Only one of them was on Tuimoloau’s list at the end.

J.T. TUIMOLOAU OFFICIALLY ENROLLED AND ON OHIO STATE FOOTBALL TEAM'S ROSTER

123566_h.jpg

Tuimoloau is now officially enrolled in the university and, as of Thursday afternoon, listed on the football team's online roster. He reportedly touched down in Columbus on Sunday.

He doesn't have a number yet, per a team spokesman.

Tuimoloau's July arrival means he'll have less time to prepare for the 2021 football season than any other scholarship player on the roster. Many came to Columbus as early enrollees in January, and others got to town in May and June for full summer workouts. Tuimoloau can begin working out this week with preseason camp beginning in a few weeks.

“I made sure I was there to meet J.T. and his family when they arrived,” Day said. “And it seems like he’s doing great. The times I got to be around him, he was very conscientious, asking a lot of questions. From what I can tell, the guys have really taken to him. They like his personality, and they like who he is. He’s fit in well, and some of the leaders have already begun taking him under their wing.”

Now that the wait for J.T. Tuimoloau is over, the expectations and the hype train can begin. To make an impact for Ohio State this fall, he’ll have some catching up to do.

“We know he fits in with the team,” Day said. “That was the first concern about coming in as late as he did. Now it’s about chemistry and finding a role for him. But he’s got to be physically ready, because there’s a lot that goes into that.

“We will be working with him through the preseason and then see where he’s at in the first game or two. There’s a long way to January. It’s too early for any kind of talk about how he’s looked or anything like that, but he certainly has a lot of ability. He is special.”

What Munford hasn’t learned is what to expect from him on the field. He had no answer when asked about his first impressions of Tuimoloau as an athlete.

“I don't know yet,” Munford said. “To be honest, I don't know. I can't wait to actually see what he does.”

Harrison is much the same way. He’s in the dark on Tuimoloau as a player.

But Harrison is getting the added benefit of experiencing some one-on-one time with Tuimoloau in the weight room, where he sees how the first-year lineman “looks smooth and fluid” in workouts.

“I've never seen J.T. play, but I'm excited to watch him play,” Harrison said. “He seems really athletic. He moves well in the weight room. He loves being pushed. He's my partner for most of the workouts, and I get to get after him. He's one of those guys who's going to give it to me right back, and I love that. The give and take. That's how you build a relationship with somebody. On the field, it just translates.”

Tuimoloau remains a mystery man, for now. In time, that’ll change.

Ohio State's roster was updated on Monday with jersey numbers for all of the new Buckeyes, revealing that Tuimoloau will wear No. 44 during his freshman year at Ohio State.

Just sayin: It's been reported that Jack Sawyer switched numbers to #40; however, as of today he is still officially listed as is still listed as #33:

There is still a chance J. T. Tuimolouo could end up with #33.

I'm just happy that JTT is a Buckeye. I don't care what number he chooses, give 3 digits for all I care, lol

“I think we’re a ways away from him stepping onto a court,” Holtmann said. “Ryan (Day) and I will have conversations. It’ll, I’m sure, ultimately will come down to what the young man and his family really want to do.”

“We’ve seen him on film. We watched him a little bit,” Holtmann said. “I met with him when he was here, we had breakfast. Beautiful kid, beautiful family.”

More importantly, though, Holtmann doesn't want basketball to interfere in any way with Tuimoloau's football aspirations.

“I’m not gonna stand in the way of a national championship or a first-round pick,” Holtmann said.
