If I had to choose between Bennett and McReynolds I would take Bennett and wouldn't have to think twice about it...

So would I.

His potential on the Dline is tremendous, I just don't know if you can state he's the best DT recruit we've recruited in 10 years, when he's barely played the position.

wow this is awesome...out of all the schools recruiting him he really is looking into the medical program aspect hard...also have we ever lost a top recruit to northwestern?....ever?

Northwestern's medical program was ranked a bit higher than Ohio State's (18th vs 27th) nationally by US News.

College Football Recruiting: Defensive tackle prospect Michael Bennett attracting attention - ESPN

Bennett a force on either side of the ball

They are difficult to find, but every college football team craves them. A difference-maker at defensive tackle is a huge asset. That's why Michael Bennett has become one of the nation's fastest-rising Class of 2011 prospects.

Unheralded entering his junior season at Centreville High just outside Dayton, Ohio, the 6-foot-3 and 275-pound Bennett dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage. (He also plays on the offensive line and was credited with 20 pancake blocks and 70 knockdown blocks.)

When Centerville coach Ron Ullery sent out Bennett's highlight film following the season, scholarship offers started flooding in.

Contd....

Wouldn't that be a timetable for a decision?

Basically he's not sure when he is going to decide (tomorrow...next week...next month) but knows he wants to get it done so that he can focus on his senior season...

Academics are really big for him. Put it this way, when has a Dayton area kid with an early offer to OSU ever considered anyone else let alone NW. It just doesn't happen. I still think we get him but NW really scares me.

Bennett finally goes the distance for Centerville

KETTERING ? Michael Bennett was stuck in a 55-foot rut. And it was getting the best of him.

?I?ve been pretty stagnant,? said the outstanding Centerville High School shot putter.

?I?ve been ready to throw far for too long and I?ve been rushing it. This was the first time I slowed down everything and it worked. I?m starting to get better.?

Bennett uncorked a personal best heave of 57 feet, five inches to win the event at the first day of the Firebird Track & Field Invitational on Thursday, May 6, at Fairmont. He?ll also be a favorite in the discus today.

The meet drew many area boys and girls teams and featured just a handful of field event finals and the 3,200 relay final. Field events resume at 5 p.m. today and all running finals at 6:30 p.m.

Bennett is a massive 6-foot-3, 275-pounder and rare two-way lineman for the Elks in football. Uncommitted, he already has been offered scholarships from most of the big-time BCS football programs, including Ohio State University, Southern California, Alabama, Texas and Florida.

But he could have just as easily been recruited for track.

?If he wasn?t such a tremendous football player he would be very recruitable for track,? said Centerville coach Matt Somerlot.

?He has a lot of options. Everybody?s offered.?

As a freshman at Centerville, Bennett was coerced into joining the track team as a thrower by then assistant Jim Findley. Seems Bennett was a constant in the weight room, and Findley gave him the ultimatum of leaving or joining the historically strong Elks throwers and staying.

?So I told him, OK, I?m a thrower,? said Bennett.

He placed ninth at state as a sophomore in the shot put and discus. This past indoor season he was second at state with a personal record of 57-3.

Then came the lull.

?I was really excited to finally beat that even though it was only by two inches,? Bennett said.

Now, his goal is a top state placing. To do that, he?ll likely need to surpass 60 feet.

?That?s what I?ve been chasing,? he said. ?I?ve hit it more than once in practice, even in meets during the warm-up period. That?s what?s been frustrating to me the last couple months.?

Bennett finally goes the distance for Centerville

57+ feet is a pretty darn good throw, definitely good enough to get some scholarship dollars, especially if you have the potential and athleticism Michael possesses. Ohio State has one thrower on the team who went over 60 feet in high school, fwiw. This year, only 25 high schoolers have hit 60+ feet and of those, only 15 are seniors.

Am I advocating that Michael go the track route? No. But if he chose to go that route over football, he would definitely be sought after.
