DL Simon Fraser (Official Thread)

He's a Buckeye but he rates far below several other recent defensive ends we've had and they weren't AA.

And who would they be? Will Smith was one of the best we've had in a long time (can't remember for sure if he was 1st-team on any major AA teams...he was 1st team on the AFCA AA team), but I wouldn't say Fraser is "far below" Smith. Other than Smith, who would you think to be clearly superior to Fraser? Oh yeah, Fraser has yet to play his senior season, so you may wish to withhold your all-mighty judgment until after the season.

You are forgetting sacks racked up by those guys

Bailey and Johnson were part of a line that set the school record in sacks, then rebroke it 2 years later, and had more sacks their senior years than Fraser has had in 3. Cotton didn't play for long at the position but has anyone forgotten the forced fumble he put on Corby Jones that halted Mizzou in 1998 or chasing down the Penn State tailback in 1999 ? If he had played 4 years instead of 2, he'd be being talked about like Will Smith imo.

I'm not smoking crack when I say those guys are better. And most every starting defensive end of the past 10+ years except for Lavrar was better than Fraser. Quit with the undue hype !

D. Scott was a DT last year. He moved inside to fit SF outside.

So, that leaves 2. You can't count Smith you duffes because he made AA. That is an impressive list of many de's that were FAR better than SF.

He may not be AA material, but he's nowhere near the turd that you're implying he is.

Way to show your stupidity again, Ponch.

I didn't know that

:!

And that's probably why OSU got its ass handed to it by UM's line which could handle a quick but undersized line. Heacock should have left Scott outside and started Pitcock inside.

We'll see how great Fraser does this year when he's not getting the scraps to clean up but has to do the leading. I'm saying he doesn't do much.

I found it interesting that Fraser and Hawk both tailed off at the end of the season last year. They are both too good to be doing that this year. Fraser was an absolute monster early on, and he certainly has the ability to make AA this year. Whether he will do so depends, first and foremost, on his performance, but additionally on other things like: highlight reel type plays, the performance of the Buckeyes overall, injuries, and last but certainly not least politics.

I really think Fraser steps up this year and asserts his savvy experience. Having said that, Patterson is the one on the line who excites me most. Put that boy in the game more this year!

I don't think Fraser or even Hawk will be 1st team AA, because we like to rotate our linemen and backers quite a bit, and some guys from other defenses play every play. So, it doesn't lead to the individual awards, but it does allow our guys to beat some serious ass in the fourth quarter
