DL Simon Fraser (Official Thread)

I like Simon a whole bunch but in the Fiesta Bowl of 2003 he really got his clock cleaned on the one play in the opening of the 3rd quarter. Man that offensive lineman planted a good one him and he went flying and never knew what hit him. But don't you know the next series he was right back in there causing some holy terror for the defense again. But that scene of him getting drilled was sort of funny and thankful tht he did not get seriously hurt and only somewhat surprised. Night night - Simon.

Hmm. Interesting that two of the "greatest concern" position players are two that have impressed Simon the most.

I would guess that this was just PC lip service (a JT type answer). Along the same lines as not needing to replace anyone on the roster, so basically you aren't calling anyone out for sucking.

Simon Fraser?

Is it me or has Simon pretty much become non existent on the football field? You rarely see him in on a play, the only two I can remember so far this year are the 2 batted passes but other then that there is nothing. For a SR captain he needs to step his play up and start making an impact because if he doesnt I am not sure we have another DE who can.

I think that we are beginning to see how truely great we were last year on the D line. The only thing wrong with Fraser is that he doesn't have Smith, Anderson and Scott (all three are playing in the NFL right now) playing along side him.

I think he's struggling because the offense is making it a priority to keep him out of the backfield and most of the time if you run directly at a pass rushing end you will neutrilize his effectivness.

Exactly. Another thing I have noticed is he seems to be playing with his pad level too high, He missed some chances to make plays, and missed takcles because of this.

Against Marshall the whole line had problems. Their RB had good vision and would set up the block by looking at one side of a blocker, which would have the D-Lineman shade to that side of the blocker thinking he could make the play then the blocker would seal him off to the otherside creating the hole. This happened to our DT's regularly. We have got to stay in our hole responsibility or atleast be more patient.
