Can a unionized Soc. Sec. worker be fired for farting?

This guy is a hero in my book. Link

"An employee at the Social Security Administration's Baltimore office has been formally reprimanded for "conduct unbecoming of a federal employee," specifically for disrupting co-workers "by passing gas and releasing an unpleasant odor." He was formally reprimanded for over 60 instances of annoying his fellow workers.

"
According to the letter, the employee, who has been identified as a 38 year old male but was not identified by name, had been informed by his supervisor during a "performance discussion" in May 2012 that his co-workers had complained about the gas issue in the past. The individual was referred to an "Employee Assistance Program" to look into whether the frequent and unpleasant incidents could be symptomatic of a medical issue.
It seems the problem continued for some time after that though. The letter, which has been redacted so as not to include names, runs five pages long and details numerous similar exchanges.
"On July 17, 2012, I spoke with you in regards to your releasing of bodily gas in the module during work hours," the letter reads. "I asked if you could make it to the rest room before releasing the awful and unpleasant odor…You said that you would try not to pass gas and that you would turn your fan on when it happens."

And if the guy does indeed have a medical condition, whoever leaked this story just violated a whole host of HIPAA and government regulations by giving out the info....just saying....

Apparently This Matters: Fart-filtering underwear

131122124903-shreddies-mens-brief-story-top.png

(CNN) -- The other day I was engaged in a rather thoughtful conversation with one of my CNN co-workers, an Ivy League-educated, award-winning journalist who's admired for her compassion and charm. She asked me to fart.

Now, I don't want to embarrass this individual by sharing her name, but it was definitely Jessica Ravitz.

The conversation went like this.

Jessica: "I can't believe I'm saying this, but I sort of want you to do it."

(I fart. It was silent.)

Me: "How's that for you?"

Jessica: "No! You didn't!"

Me: "Oh, I did."

Jessica: "Really? Seriously? I can't smell a thing."

We give each other high fives.

You see, I was wearing Shreddies, a new flatulence-filtering underwear that recently made news all over the Web. It was actually trending several weeks ago, and I was hoping to write about the product then, while it was still a big talker online.

Cliff Lee passes gas to signal interview's end

The best gas Cliff Lee displayed all night in his return to the Philadelphia Phillies rotation didn't materialize until he signed off from a postgame interview.
In his first start since May 18 because of a sore elbow, Lee allowed six runs and 12 hits in a 7-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants — not exactly the stuff of a pitcher expected to be in demand during trading season. He figures to pitch better next time, though his $25 million annual salary might make Lee hard to deal no matter what. The Phillies have said that Cole Hamels isn't being shopped, so that would leave Lee and A.J. Burnett as big names who are available.
"I want this team to win and I'm going to do everything I can to help that happen," Lee said in a postgame interview captured by CSN Philly. "And that's really it."
Except for one final comment. A fart. Or, since it was in Philly, a phart.
"Did y'all get that on tape?" Lee can be heard asking in his Arkansas accent.
