DT Dexter Larimore (official thread)

I hope we land this guy, Duane says that you learn more about leverage one week in wrestling than a year in football. He seems to be under the radar, but so was Malcom Jenkins, and look how he's doing.

Hopefully he develops into a quality big 10 tackle.

Someone on BN said that the Michigan game wasnt very impressive to him with some beer bottle incident and the low crowd noise. Also said he watched the OSU vs. Texas game and was impressed with our crowd and our defense. Not sure if it's true no articles are allowed to be linked on BN of course.

Love these wrestlers. Tim Anderson, Alex Stephanovich, Luke Fickell, were all great HS wrestlers. Guys like Simon Fraser and even Archie Griffin were pretty decent HS wrestlers. Currently at OSU we've got Anthony Schlegel, James Aston (he'll make some noise before he's done), and JD Bergman (oh well, that one didn't pan out--but it was fun while it lasted) who are all great wrestlers.

Note that Steve Neal of the New England Patriots did not play football in college (he was a national wrestling champ). Still, he's turned out to be one heckuva pro lineman.

Rivals $ (Michigan)

9/26

Dexter says he grew up a Michigan fan and always considered the Wolverines the premiere program in the nation. However, after getting some experience in the recruiting process, he realizes there are other schools worthy of that title. He was very impressed with tOSU and especially the coaching staff. Dexter says that type of environment is exactly what he is seeking. He is focusing on his team's season and will decide after taking his visits in December.

Scout $ (GBW)

9/28

Dexter says he would like to try play football and wrestle in college. He admits to being a Michigan fan growing up, but says the atmosphere in Columbus was much more exciting than his trip to Ann Arbor for the ND game. Dexter says he will take all of his visits before deciding and he claims no leader.

Dexter discusses the atmosphere at the 'Shoe and how much he enjoyed the coaches. He is also ranked nationally as the #1 wrestler in his weight class.

Dexter may try to visit Ohio State on the first weekend of December (which is traditionally OSU's biggest recruiting weekend of the year).

Fraser played basketball in HS. AFAIK he never wrestled.

The thing about Larimore - unlike Aston - is that he might be able to pull the double off. Because of his height, Aston would almost certainly have to wrestle at 197, which would require him to lose 15 pounds plus on a compact frame. Easily doable, but rough if he yoyoed between 220 for football and 197 for wrestling. OTOH Larimore would be a pure heavy (285 pounder). Even if he hit 300 for football, not a big deal to drop 15.
