When are folks going to realize that recruiting isn't that cut and dry? You simply can't apply the logic "well, if Mark Danotonio didn't offer, then there must be serious questions about this kid's talent". That simply is not how recruiting works...there are so many variable that go into tendering an offer...class size, DTs on the roster, technique, defensive scheme, etc.

On to some recent quotes about Hankins:

Hankins is a big boy who can eat up some space on the interior of the defensive line. He has a lot of bulk packed onto his frame and looks to be all of what he is listed at. He has an adequate get-off and is a two-gapper. He can take on double teams and hold his ground. Will flash the ability to use his hands to separate from blockers and shed. He needs to watch his pad level as he can get tall. Even when he plays high he can be tough to move back, but he can also have trouble getting off the block. While he is basically a two-gap defensive tackle he will show flashes of being able to quickly step laterally and when he can get into the gap he can rumble up-field and be disruptive in the backfield. He is built to do his damage between the tackles, but shows some hustle for a big man and will turn and run to ball. Hankins shows some flashes, but will really be the best friend of his teammates in the front seven as he can take up space and eat up blocks that should allow them to make plays and at times the big man shows he can make a play of his own. Hankins does though need to be careful about adding weight as he continues to physically mature.

Bill Kurelic: Eight elite prospects from Michigan were on hand for the NFTC in Champaign - ESPN

Offensive lineman Zach Fulton (Homewood, Ill./Flossmoor) took on defensive tackle Bruce Gaston (Chicago/St. Rita) and Hankins in some great individual matchups. Fulton won a battle or two with good feet and solid pass-protection technique, and took the camp's offensive line MVP award. Gaston and Hankins won a battle, and plenty of praise from the coaches on hand. The 6-foot-3, 304-pound Gaston is a powerful defensive lineman who uses his hands well rushing the quarterback. Hankins combines speed and power and used some nice moves to defeat his opponent.

Bill Conley: Several of the top QBs in Big Ten country stole the show at the Illinois NFTC - ESPN

The defensive tackle duo of Bruce Gaston (Chicago/St. Rita) and Jonathan Hankins (Detroit/Southeastern) were powerful and hard to pass-block. Gaston uses his hands well, effectively using the push-and-pull technique. But he needs to be more fluid in sliding his hips to the outside to clear the blocker. Hankins is a true power-rusher who is difficult to stalemate. He has a great motor but needs to expand his repertoire of pass-rush techniques.

Actually Dantonio and RR have yet to offer this kid...

Little suprised that both instate BCS schools would pass on a kid that OSU has offered. My only guess is maybe MD doesn't want this type of player and RR thinks he is in a better situation with some other DT he has rated higher.

Regardless if he chooses OSU, congrats, I just hope he doesn't turn into V. Gholston part 2
