DT Johnathan "Big Hank" Hankins (Dallas Cowboys)

Ohio State's Johnathan Hankins happy with win, even if Michigan State's Le'Veon Bell kept his head

EAST LANSING -- Ohio State defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins talked vividly last week about how he intended to handle Michigan State running back Le'Veon Bell when the preseason All-America from Detroit Southwestern vowed, "I'm going to try to rip his head off."

Post-game accountability was easy enough for Hankins after the Buckeyes' 17-16 victory. He assisted on three tackles, two of them against Bell, who left Spartan Stadium with his head still attached.

"Well, you know, if I ever got the chance to do that ... I didn't really get the chance," Hankins said. "But we made good gang tackles and we got him down. So I'm good with that."

Hankins said he couldn't tell whether Bell became frustrated as the Buckeyes limited him to a season-low 45 yards on 17 carries.

"I was talking to him every chance I got, to see what he was thinking," Hankins said. "But he knew he couldn't really do too much. He was just doing the best he could for his team.

"I thought we all, as a whole, we all did a good job gang-tackling. He's a good running back but we didn?t give him a chance. We didn't give him a chance at all."

Hankins suggested decapitation as his preferred method for containing Bell during an interview last week.

Folks back home started ringing him immediately after the quote surfaced.

"People were calling me and they were like, 'Aw, did you really say it?' and I was like, 'Yeah.' But it was just the game of football. I didn?t really mean it in a bad way," Hankins said.

The hint of controversy didn?t make the homecoming difficult at all, he added.

"It's always easy to come home," Hankins said. "People love me and appreciate what I do. So it's always easy to come home."

Big Hank getting eyes gouged

Absolutely classless by MSU.

lol and they are mad we edited out a few plays on the tape? How about we send this to the B1G

Great job by Hankins as usual.

Lets not fight classlessness with classlessness.

I think we should send it to the B1G, there should be a "zero tolerance" for actions like that.

Remember the incident in 2003 where an Ohio State linebacker got suspended for one game for chocking the Wisconsin QB.

I remember that clearly. I have never been so ashamed of a Buckeye, that was one of the dirtiest and most despicable things I have seen. I hate Wisconsin more than about anything but after that, we almost deserved to lose. No room in football for that kind of [Mark May]. Same with this ordeal.

Before we bring the pitchforks against MSU for this, Hankins wasn't exactly innocent on this either. Look at his hand. Granted he's not eye gouging, but still grabbing the mask and yanking it back.

He was pushing the guy away with his hand because the offensive player slammed him backwards over the pile (probably trying to get his leg caught and hurt him that way) after the play was over.

Also led by Dantonio, and that defense wasn't particularly clean either.

1. *Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State: Throughout the first month of the 2012 college football season, the most consistently dominant prospect I've seen has been the 6-3, 320-pound Hankins. He's been moved inside and out, exploded through one-on-one blocks and shown the ability to handle double teams. He's been more impressive despite playing tougher competition than Utah's Star Lotulelei.

I think this will be the last year we see Big Hank play in Columbus, enjoy watching him dominate while you can.
