DT Luke Fickell (HC Wisconsin Badgers)

I may be biased but why leave OSU for UC and NOT be head coach? Move up the ranks at OSU and then leave for a head coaching gig. He'd be much more attractive coming from a successful program than getting looks as an associate head coach at what could be a less (maybe much less) successful UC program.

Don't get me wrong, I am definitely happy for Coombs and grateful fot everything he has done.
Maybe Urban wasn't ready to promote him yet. Coombs isn't getting any younger, and I'm sure saw UC as an opportunity to go back home, move up the ranks faster, build a defense his way, and do it without the immense spotlight and pressure that tOSU brings. I doubt that Coombs would be the DC in the next 2yrs at tOSU(Schiano probably next year and then another hire). At UC, Coombs can start fresh and possibly work his way to a HC gig when Fickell leaves or even make his mark on a MAC school in a few years

Wonder if he is gonna be bringing back any other Tressel guys.

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Richard McNutt get a call....he's been a DB coach at Youngstown State a few years, but has a great reputation.

Whether it's with Fickell at UC or elsewhere, it's been great to see Richards progression after his playing career abruptly ended. His secondary at Youngstown State has consistently been one of the best in the country since taking the position, and he doubles as recruiting coordinator as well. You're talking about a guy with good coaching chops and relationships already established throughout Ohio....seems like a no-brainer to me. Especially if Coombs takes a DC position there.

It will be very difficult for Fickell to leave his home town and Ohio State after so many years. No matter where he goes, a childhood centered on Karl Road will go with him. Northland Shopping Center is gone. St Matthias Church so very different than it was. But DeSales has endured and the kid that my aunt fed in that cafeteria is taking up a new coaching challenge.

There will be many demands to prepare for the future, but right now, he needs to do this the right way and keep focused on the NC run. He will be sorely missed and kindly thought of by Buckeye fans. I know it is unlikely, but I hope that one day he will return.

Can we bring back the "McNutt for Heisman" signs?!?
