Just ask Pete Cusick.
The longtime Redondo Beach resident knows.
It's a matter of been there, done that.
Cusick was a starting defensive tackle, an All-American his senior season, for Ohio State during the 1972-73-74 seasons. That put him in the Rose Bowl three years in a row when the attention of the nation turned to Pasadena on Jan. 1. "Except for the Michigan game, and maybe a couple of other games, we didn't play teams like USC, " he said.

Cjusick Radio

I was pleasantly surprised by hearing Pete Cusick on a sports radio station in Central Florida, going over his picks for several upcoming college and pro games. It's been a long time, since 1975, when I last spoke with Pete and his brother, both great Buckeyes. Not only have I always had respect for Pete as a football great, But I learned fairly quickly that he can deliver a right cross that put my 200 pounds about 10' feet across the room each time he hit me doing some friendly sparring with 16 ounce gloves. It was after some boxing that I discovered Pete was also an NCAA Super Heavyweight Champ. A leader in all things, Pete's football insights are what I'll be listening to from now on, figuring he knows what he speaks about. Great guy, that All-American Buckeye, Pete Cusick.:osu:

2012 Ohio State Hall of Fame....

Pete Cusick
Football, 1972-74
Pete Cusick, a three-year starter for the Ohio State football team from 1972-74, was a First Team All-American and team captain as a defensive tackle in 1974. A First Team All-Big Ten selection in 1973 and 1974, Cusick helped lead the Buckeyes to three-consecutive Big Ten championships and three-consecutive Rose Bowl appearances. Ohio State went 29-4-1 in Cusick?s three seasons as a starter and, incredibly, its defense allowed only 64 points in the 1973 campaign.

Cusick recorded 242 career tackles, including 22 tackles-for-loss in his three seasons. He played in the Hula Bowl following his senior season before going on to play a season for the New England Patriots in the National Football League. In 2000, Cusick was selected to the Ohio State football All-Century Team by the Touchdown Club of Columbus.
