DT Taron Vincent (San Antonio Brahmas)

Drake Harris has more pages on this forum than Taron. That's how it works in the modern world. The dipshits get clicks and the great ones just go about their business.

A) fuck *ichigan always plays

and

B) he isn't a great one until he's a great one

He stomps a mudhole in scUM's ass then walks it dry and he never leaves page 1

11W COMMUNITY INTERVIEW: FIVE-STAR DEFENSIVE TACKLE SIGNEE TARON VINCENT

92301_h.jpg

The 11W Community Interview is truly of the people, by the people and for the people. You submit the questions and then we pass them on to the biggest names in the world of Ohio State athletics.

Not that long ago, there was a narrative that Ohio State couldn’t reel in an elite defensive tackle under head coach Urban Meyer.

It was seemingly justified, too, seeing as the Buckeyes missed out on big-name prospects like Terry Beckner, Neville Gallimore, Rashan Gary, Thomas Holley, Dexter Lawrence, Rashard Lawrence, Derrick Nnadi, Christian Wilkins and Marvin Wilson in recent recruiting cycles. That all changed last April, though, when IMG Academy five-star Taron Vincent picked Ohio State over finalist Florida State.

The 6-foot-2, 285-pound Vincent’s relationship with defensive line coach Larry Johnson played a major role in his decision — they first met when Johnson recruited Vincent’s older brother, Troy Jr., to Penn State more than five years ago. He actually committed to the Nittany Lions, but backed off that pledge when Johnson was hired by the Buckeyes in January 2014.

The Seminoles were the only program that posed a real threat in the younger Vincent’s recruitment, meanwhile, which marked the second cycle in a row the two programs battled for the nation’s top-rated defensive tackle (Wilson).

Things appeared to be trending in Florida State’s favor following an unofficial visit in March, but another trip to Columbus — his first in nearly a year — sealed the deal for Ohio State.

Vincent, a U.S. Army All-American and The Opening Finals invitee, finished his senior season with 53 tackles, eight tackles for a loss and four sacks to lead the Ascenders to their third-consecutive undefeated season last fall. He and four-star linebacker signee Teradja Mitchell were named finalists for the USA TODAY Sports Defensive Player of the Year award, as well.

Though he already graduated from high school, Vincent will not enroll in classes until this summer. That meant he had some free time to sit down and talk with our readers about the recruiting process, life after football, his knife collection and much more in the latest 11W Community Interview.

With so many colleges pursuing your commitment, what was the one thing that separated Ohio State from the rest? Also, when did you know Ohio State was the place for you? - Seattle Linga

TV: “Just my relationship I had with all the coaches really separated them from the rest. And around the end of April last year, I took an unofficial visit and I knew it was the place for me.”

Do you prefer to play the one-technique, three-technique or nose tackle position along the line? - 703Buckeye

TV: “I prefer three-tech, but I can play anywhere on the line.”

What college or NFL player — past or present — would you compare your game to? - InsertNameHere

TV: “[Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle] Aaron Donald.”

What was your favorite part of the recruiting process? - Gobucks544

TV: “Just being able to travel to all the different universities and meeting all new people.”

Can you describe the most memorable play of your football career thus far? - VABuckeye

TV: “My junior year, we were playing [Virginia Beach] Bishop Sullivan and there was about one minute left on the clock. We were up by like five and they had the ball, but I got back-to-back sacks to seal the game.”

Eight members of Ohio State's vaunted 2018 class, the Supreme 18, early enrolled back in January.

Buckeye Football Freshman Focus: Defensive Tackle Taron Vincent

Taron-Vincent-Focus.jpg

The Buckeyes signed 26 players in the 2018 recruiting class, and only offensive lineman Nicholas Petit-Frere was ranked higher by the recruiting services than 5-star IMG defensive tackle Taron Vincent (Bradenton, FL).

Petit-Frere was seen as the No. 1 offensive tackle and the No. 7 player, while Vincent was ranked the No. 1 defensive tackle and the No. 20 player overall. Vincent, Petit-Frere, and 11 other Buckeye teammates represented 13% of the Top 100 players in the nation, which gives you a different way of looking at just how talented the 2018 recruiting class is.

Vincent did not enroll early, which will delay his development initially, but it is far from a road block to immediate success. The more stout obstacle for him in 2018 will be the Ohio State depth chart.

What To Like
Listed at 6-foot-2 and 285 pounds, Taron Vincent will likely come in and focus on playing the three technique position on the interior.

Vincent is the son of former NFL cornerback Troy Vincent, so he has been around football his entire life. He understands the game very well, and understands the leverage that his position requires.

Vincent is an explosive trench man who can blast into the backfield either between blockers with his quickness or through a blocker with his power and leverage. When he does get into the backfield, he will also pursue laterally as the play breaks down.

He is No. 54 in the clips below.

Vincent played inside and outside for IMG, excelling in one-on-one situations wherever he lined up. His quickness is troublesome for offensive guards, and tackles didn’t exactly excel against him either.

He doesn’t stay blocked for long, especially if there is only one player trying to do the blocking.

I can't wait to hear the reports from camp on Taron. Dude just does it all and might have the most potential of any DT we've brought in that I can remember in recent history. The depth chart is certainly stacked with interior talent, but there is still an opportunity for a guy like Vincent to break through. While we have a lot of quality depth, I don't see a star with the upside at DT that Taron has on our roster other than Dre'Mont Jones (maybe Togiai from the reports, but different style of player and we'll see).

I see him as a very versatile pass rush threat that can also be equally effective against the run after a little Coach Mick time. Down the road, I see Taron and Togiai as being an absolute force inside, as they compliment each other extremely well. Short term, I think Taron could get in some PT in pass rush situations. Long term, he is going to wreak havoc with Tommy inside (and Antuan Jackson, as I believe he has 3 years of eligibility).

I think in about 10 years, people are going to be saying, “Taron Vincent and Yommy Togiai were in the same recruiting class!!?”

I just feel like those two are going to be 1st round picks and future all pros at DT. Obviously, it’s all expectations at this point but I have a great feeling about those two.
