Official Visit Reaffirms Denlinger's Commitment

Troy, Ohio, defensive tackle Todd Denlinger has known for some time that Ohio State was the place that he wanted to be, a fact that was only confirmed by his official visit to Columbus over the weekend.

Rivals.com

Todd Denlinger said he couldn't have asked for a better time at Ohio State.
“It was great,” he told BuckeyeSports.com. “I don’t think I could have asked for a better time. Everybody was real cool. It was a good time.”

Denlinger was hosted on the visit by freshman offensive lineman Ben Person. He also got the chance to hang out with several other recruits, including fellow verbals Rob Schoenhoft and Austin Spitler along with Minnesota linebacker James Laurinaitis, who became one of the newest members of the recruiting class over the weekend.

To hear Denlinger tell it, the bond that those four developed over the course of their 48 hours on campus played a large part in Laurinaitis’ decision to attend Ohio State.

“I think we got him hooked,” Denlinger said. “He came here and I think it opened his eyes a little bit as far as seeing everything.”

The coaching staff made sure that the recruits did in fact see everything. Denlinger and company did spend some time observing practice and touring the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, but they also spent a large portion of their time touring the campus and meeting with academic advisers.

Even though Denlinger was an Ohio Stadium regular during the 2004 season, his official visit gave him the chance to learn even more about the university as a whole.

“I actually learned quite a bit,” he said. “I had never really been on campus that much so I didn’t really know what it was like. Being able to see that helped me out a lot, (as did) meeting with the academic people.”

With a GPA of 3.8 and an ACT score of 23, Denlinger has already passed through the NCAA Clearinghouse, but he is still planning on re-taking the test because he knows he could do better. He also plans to throw shot for Troy’s track team in the spring before beginning his Buckeye career next summer.

Retaking the ACT, when he doesn't need to, simply because he wants to do better?!? That attitude depicts a drive for perfection that should translate nicely on the practice field and the playing field. This tells me a helluva lot about the type of person OSU has landed here! Quite impressive Todd.

semms like people have forgotten about what a player he will be...jsut talked to a kid we both grew up with and he said that todd has been training/working out with some guy from north carolina...but supposedly this guy has been traing pros and stuff...not sure how reliable this is but its worth reading about...also i heard that the coaches werent really sure where they were going to play him due to his size and speed for a big man...

Just getting Denlinger some page one time.

Here is a kid who was 265 playing middle linebacker and running from sideline to sideline.

Love this kid and the attitude that he's bringing to Ohio State.

I just don't think we are talking enough about the kids Ohio State has in the bag.

It's human nature, I know, but this kid is going to be special!

Agreed, I talked to several people that said he was one of a few good players on an average Troy team. The GWOC has very good competition and I believe they won or came in 2nd in their division.

I remember looking at his Jr films at LB and thinking, what is so special about his kid, so what he tackles just like everyone else. Then I remembered he was 265lbs - unbelievable. I think this kid could be in the Pitcock mold. Not that ratings mean anything but I believe he is consistently in the top20DT if not top10....

I agree! I have always liked him ever since I read about him here. He seemed to be a smart young man with great attitude for the Bucks! I think he will be a great one too...like Pitcock in deed.

Todd is working out with a trainer in Ky. He is getting training on agility skills. I believe he works out against players from many top colleges that are training for the nfl combine as part of each training session. Of course he continues to lift at school. I think this young man will make the Buckeyes very happy very quickly.
