I'm happy to see a DT finally come up in the '12 class! There have been the obvious DE names flying around for a while now, and it's good to see the staff getting in on a big guy to plug up the middle. I have no idea what the competition is like that he's facing, and this is obviously a highlight video so we aren't seeing his downsides, but he looks extremely mobile for a guy his size.

Dear god, he's quick for a big guy.

Impressive offer list, that's for sure. Could definitely be a 3-4 end with his quickness.

Just noticed that he's from Indiana, that certainly doesn't hurt our chances.

    IL does not equal Indiana.

Good sized kid with some quicks. Definitely one to watch.

The article describes him as fast but maybe quick is a better label. Being "quick" in the first three to five yards is the earmark of a good DT. The buzz seems to support that about Schutt.

Completely agree. His change-of-direction is very impressive considering he has 300lbs to redirect, and he seems to do a good job of sniffing out the play and putting himself right in the path of the ball carrier.

This is the recruit I'd most like Tressel to land in the 2012 class. Great DTs are so rare and valuable. He would be perfect to pair with Bennett (along with whomever else b/c a DT from the 2011 class) and a rotation of Miller and Hayes & some combination of McMullen, Pittman, Lewis, Wormley and Washington.

I know this is Tommy's thread & his highlight film, but his team really attacks the ball well. There's always a group of guys near the ball.

Time well spent watching that film. I can't say enough about his play. What stands out to me is the kid is a warrior. He plays inspired, nasty and unafraid. However, he is strong as a bull and yet technically sound. I love how he uses his hands to move the blocker and get to the ball...combined with his strength, he just abuses his blockers. Obvously he has a good burst off the ball and good movement scraping down the line. He isn't going to blow guys off the ball like that at the next level, but with how advanced he is, he is going to be tough to move. I agree, he could be the perfect compliment to go with Bennett, he seems right around the 300 mark, kid is huge. It would also be nice if Goebel made some waves next year...another Illinois DT from his area doing well could help.

The tandem with Bennett to complement Simon and Hank would be a monster group IMO.
