Penn State's top recruit Tommy Schutt, a defensive tackle from Illinois, will visit Ohio State this weekend, his high school coach Chad Hetlet confirmed on Wednesday.
Schutt has said throughout the last month he was still firm on his decision to attend Penn State. Schutt is Penn State's only ESPNU 150 recruit. He is ranked No. 130 in the Class of 2012.
Penn State is embroiled in an alleged child sexual abuse scandal involving former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, who was arrested and jailed Wednesday after two new accusers came forward.
Schutt, who is 6-foot-3 and 305 pounds, had 14 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, 19 batted balls and one interception this season for Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Ill. He was the ESPNChicago.com Defensive Player of the Year.
Schutt told ESPNChicago.com on Nov. 15 that he was not going to make any changes at that point.
"I'm going to see how it plays out and go from there," Schutt said then.
Schutt's first choice was Notre Dame, but he had his offer rescinded on the day he was going to commit after the Irish completed their recruiting class. He later committed to Penn State in August.
Penn State defensive line coach Larry Johnson recruited Schutt. Penn State was said to be Schutt's childhood dream school when he committed. He had over 20 offers when he made his decision.
Penn State already has lost one ESPNU 150 recruit. Offensive lineman Joey O'Connor, who is ranked 105th, decommitted on Nov. 10.

If Larry Johnson goes, I really like our chances with Tommy. And it will help alot with Spence.

U can pretty much bank on the entire rest of the staff being fired and Penn St starting completely new

Tommy Schutt, a blue-chip prospect at defensive tackle, is expected to make an official visit to Ohio State this weekend.

Schutt, from Glen Ellyn, Ill., committed to Penn State in early September. His high-school coach, Chad Hetlet, told The Dispatch?s Tim May that the turmoil at Penn State, with longtime coach Joe Paterno being fired and former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky facing charges in a child sex-abuse scandal, caused Schutt to reconsider.

Another factor was Ohio State hiring Urban Meyer. Meyer and linebackers coach Mike Vrabel have made a big push for Schutt.

Schutt, at 6 feet 3 and 301 pounds, is ranked No. 5 nationally among defensive tackles by Rivals.com.

PSU is like a Dead man walking. I cannot blame the kid for looking around.

Re: The NCAA will examine whether Penn State broke any rules with its handling of a child sex abuse scandal that has shocked the campus and cost the school's former president and coach Joe Paterno their jobs.
NCAA president Mark Emmert sent a letter to Penn State president Rod Erickson saying that the governing body for college sports will look at "Penn State's exercise of institutional control over its intercollegiate athletics programs" in the case of Jerry Sandusky, the former defensive coordinator accused of 40 counts of child sex abuse.
"We have to examine those facts and make a thoughtful determination of what is covered by our bylaws and what is not," Emmert told The Associated Press on Friday.

Especially with he NCAA getting involved. Who knows what the NCAA will do and how long it will take them to do it?

After the Big Ten's recent letter I'd be willing to wager that the conference is more likely tol levy a meaningfull punishment on State Penn than the NCAA.

Combining that with the new PSU president saying he wants to "de-emphasize football," there should be a lot of hesitation about how competitive PSU will be over the course of his career.

The student support "suooort" for JoPa after his firing may ultimately undermine the program he helped build. That was very much the wrong message.

Idiocy like that "Laschout" letter also don't help. It's becoming obvious to anyone outside of State College that the culture there has formed quite literally a cult around football, to the point where there's a disconnect from reality.

It would be one thing if it were t-shirt alumni acing up, but these are actual students and graduates of the university showing some remarkably poor moral values and reasoning skills. They're making a strong case that the whole university needs to take about ten steps back from football.
