Duane Long (Blog Discussion)

Until they play in college, prospect because you don't know how they'll fare. Prospect = recruit, in my termanology.

Well, I mean as a player in high school or as an actual college prospect. There are some great high school players who don't project well to college. Wynn is pretty small(still young though) while Donnal has good athleticism and an ideal frame.

An an actual college prospect. I think Donnal is very good, but I'm a big fan of Wynn and his playmaking ability. He reminds me of Ray Small but with much better football instincts. His return abilities are already great, he is patient and waits for the crease and is one hit and go.

Good list overall but my opinion:
1. Andrew Norwell: Just as athletic as Adams and as nasty as Pace. I really think he is the best OL in the state for awhile. People are really selling him short.
2. Braxton Miller: Really a tough call to put him at #2 but I think Norwell is a better player, though Miller plays a position where he will get more notice. In any event, he would be a 5 star player this year but will battle for the top player in the country next year.
3. Jamel Turner: Explosive, rangy, and plenty of room to add on him frame. I have no idea how Turner is not on Duane's top 10. I am ecstatic on his potential and shoot...he even puts out great production, so it's not all just potential.
4. Jordan Hicks: Crazy athletic, hits like a load of bricks, very instinctive, and great in coverage. Right up there for top player in the state for '10.
5. Steve Miller: Frame sticks out and so does his national attention. I've yet to see him unfortunately but the hype warrants a top 5 ranking.
6. Chris Rock: Amazing defensive prospect with good athleticism and a non stop motor. Great frame and blows up the line of scrimmage. Whether he plays DE or DT, he is going to be a star.
7. Matt James: Huge tackle who can move and he has top offers from all over the country. I think Rivals has him underrated, as I think he is a 40-60 range player nationally...I think he will prove that coming back from his injury this year.
8. Spencer Ware: A player that many have forgot...I believe a big reason why is no major offers outside of OSU and a possibly maxed out frame. He is still an amazing athlete that is a top 100 player nationally.
9. Scott McVey: A terror for opposing QB's, great instincts, good in coverage, and just a flat out player with production to prove it. Should be a top 100 guy or near it, but is getting no national respect.
10. Shane Wynn: Absolutely explosive athlete with great hands. He is a standout returner as well, but is only limited by his size (hopefully he will grow). The 5'7 RB from Colerain (Williams I believe) could also be a similar type of talent.

In a span of three days, Duane Long goes from naming Hyde the starter to not sure about wanting him on the team because Rod Smith is coming in. You can't make this up. :slappy:

The more I read and hear from DL, the more I think he is a tool who has no real, worthwhile information to share. Just my opinion, of course.

I will disagree...strongly. Duane Long provides plenty of great discussion and news. Your assessment is completely off base.

I always defer to more knowledgeable posters, so I'll take your word for it grad. I'll have to read more of his stuff.

I like Duane because he will keep a balance between praise and criticism. He will speak honestly on both ends of that spectrum without bashing or without drinking the Kool-Aid. When it comes to player evaluations, he divulges as much as he can...sometimes people need to read between the lines though. I know Duane has to sit on plenty of info just like most of the other 'insiders' However, he knows what he is talking about...and is not afraid to go out on the limb occasionally. When that limb fails, too often posters want to point it out as a sign of incompetence when in reality, its just a part of the crapshoot. A few years ago, I got in some heated discussion about Ben Martin...I said he was a 3 and done talent and I still believe that. However, after a few other factors early in his career, Ben has to have a big year to make my prediction come true. If not, am I suddenly an idiot or did things just not work out the way we thought they would?

No one thinks you are an idiot, as far as you know. :wink2:
