Iowa State's Rhoads might be No. 1 candidate

Pitt will not use a search firm to help identify candidates as it begins the hunt for a football coach to replace Todd Graham, and that is a sign the university already has a short list of candidates.

In fact, according to sources, the school already is reaching out to candidates, including Ohio State defensive coordinator Luke Fickell, who served as the interim coach of the Buckeyes this season, Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads, Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops, Wisconsin offensive coordinator Paul Chryst, Northern Illinois coach Dave Doeren and former Illinois and Florida coach Ron Zook.

Continued...

FYI, the timeline is hilarious...

Dumb move if he goes to Pitt. Since Sherrill left, that place has been where careers go to die. Much better to stay with UM for 3-4 years, win a NC and then see what kind of HC opportunities are out there.

I'll support Fickell wherever his career takes him, but I just think this would not be the right move.

It all depends on what his goals are. Does he want to be a HC? Is he content living in his hometown as a career Assitant at his Alma Mater. If he aspires to be a HC the Pitt job is way ahead of a MAC like opportunity. The time to move is now if offered the job IMHO.

I don't disagree with this and no one could blame him for taking the Pitt job.
