You don't always take jobs you interview for due to whatever circumstances. Sometimes it's a just what the heck I won't get it but I want to see how I do in an interview sometimes circumstances change sometimes you just decide you really don't want that job after all.

Though I am a little suspicious of him having an offer because if what said was true that he has an offer and until monday to decide I don't think he'd go recruiting for OSU while deciding.

Compilation of opinions including my own...don't see him leaving.

If he was going to leave, he would have cast that line two weeks ago. So many good things happening in Columbus and the opportunity to make an already exceptional resume' into a dynamic 'must have' candidate.

Luke may shock us all, but I don't see it happening.

I hope he stays but I won't begrudge him if he leaves. If he's got a BCS coaching gig offered to him he has to consider it. Having been the HC this season the adjustment back to coordinator with the same team could be somewhat awkward, at times.

Either way, I wish him the best. If he stays, awesome. If he goes to Pitt I hope he wins the ACC.

Someone on GBW (consider the source) said Pitt was offering 10 million over 5 years?
Same rumors on tOSU scout site. It's a big pay hike, but my understanding is that Luke is all about being comfortable. Next year, he could be getting a 3x pay hike for being an assistant. Plus, like Grad said, big things appear to be happening in C-bus. He could easily parlay that into a better job down the road. Pitt has been a coaching graveyard for decades. Nobody has really "fallen up" from that job in a very long time...maybe Majors to Tennessee 35 years ago, I'd say Pitt----->ASU is a lateral move. I guess it comes down to how much money means to him.

I think the opportunity to be the captain of the ship is every bit a factor. To say it is just about money overlooks that fact, and seems a bit unfair to me.

Ohio State's Luke Fickell interested in Pitt job

Ohio State interim coach Luke Fickell said today that he has spoken to a Pitt official about the school's head coaching vacancy and is interested in the job.
"Hey, it's a dream of mine (to be a head coach)," he said. "Someday, when it's right.
"They have great history. They have great tradition. They have a great high school state for football."
He said he was contacted through mutual acquaintances.
"Some people you know know some people there," he said. "I don't know how serious they are."
Fickell is attending the PIAA Class AAA championship game tonight in Hershey with new Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and linebackers coach Mike Vrabel. They are there to see five-star Bishop McDevitt defensive end Noah Spence.
Fickell, 38, was named interim coach at Ohio State this year after Jim Tressel resigned in the wake of Buckeyes players receiving improper benefits. He led Ohio State to a 6-6 record and a berth in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2 against Florida.
He said he has not interviewed with Pitt and one isn't scheduled.
"I really don't know how this whole thing works," he said. "Obviously, it's a touchy subject over there how it (Todd Graham resigning) happened. Things happen fast."

I didn't intend it to look that way. What I mean is, I think if Luke sticks it out under Urban for a year or two, he'll have better opportunities presented to him than Pitt. Like I said, nobody has really used that job as a springboard for anything in a long, long time. Pitt football is a dead end job. They haven't been relevent on the national scene in 30 years, don't have their own stadium, will always play second fiddle to the stillers, and are moving to a (slightly) tougher conference. He'd be better off taking on a MAC program, turning them around and moving on. At least the MAC has a history of doing that. Pitt...not so much.

Exactly, Luke. Exactly. Pitt isn't "right".

I agree with that. The dumbass locals thought it was cool when Pitt moved to Heinz Field - even though most of them never go to their games - and I said it was a mistake. It hasn't helped them one bit. Maybe nothing will, but forcing your students to have to bus to home games is not a step forward.

Yunzers are "graduates" of Pittsburgh Stillers University. Most pay no attention to college football. Just one of many reasons why, despite growing up in the area, I never felt the slightest compulsion to be a Stillers fan. I don't care if they win 20 Super Bowls. Fuck 'em.

If Fickell takes the job, who would be the interim coach for the Bowl? Would they just have Urban coach it?
