I can't imagine that it wasn't, but I'm sure Stoops feels like he doesn't want to live in the land of the unknown either. I'm fairly certain his fallback job is at Oklahoma, and his next job will be something that can enhance his prospects as a head coach. If that doesn't pan out, back to Okie...

My BEST guess is that Meyer ultimately isn't going to hire Stoops because of the distinct possibility that Stoops would be a one or two year and done coach...it didn't take him long to go after Withers...

I'd prefer Stoops, but what sticks out to me during the presser is that Meyer said he'd be hiring the highest quality staff, that would be here a long time. Not sure Stoops ultimately fits that role...

    THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Luke Fickell has talked with University of Pittsburgh athletics director Steve Pederson about the Panthers coaching job, but the Ohio State coach said today he has not received an offer.
Fickell said that even if he gets an offer and takes it, he will coach Ohio State in the Gator Bowl against Florida on Jan. 2 before Urban Meyer takes over all responsibilities as Buckeyes head coach.
Unless he takes the Pitt job, Fickell will return to being a Buckeyes assistant coach. Meyer said this week that Fickell will call the defensive signals, though there has not been a formal announcement that Fickell will be the defensive coordinator.
Fickell said that the last few days have been a blur and that aresolution is unclear.
?A lot of things going on,? Fickell said. ?I don?t know anything more than that. I don?t know where they are or what they want to do. They?ve at least mentioned (the job) and reached out a little bit.

    Fick to Pitt?

If coach Fick went to Pitt, I wonder if Vrabel will follow. I also wonder how many recruits would consider following him. I am assuming the number would be small, but I hate losing a great coach(es) and possibly a couple recruits.

I wish Pitt would just hire Mark May, schedule a home-and-home with tOSU, and then get thrashed by 60+ points in each game! When asked why Urban went for two on the last score, he would say, "because the Pitt coach is a [Mark May]ing idiot!

Hang around Luke...it'll be your reward for honorably dealing with all the nonsense you did this year!

ESPN (tv) is reporting that Chryst to Pitt is a done deal.

The speculation had died down over the last couple days, but now that the door seems to be closed for sure I'll say I'm glad that Fickell will be coaching at Ohio State next season.

His replacement hasn't started yet and they have already named a stadium after him.
