  • This Orlando Sentinel tweeter wants Dwight Howard to stay

Howard has more balls than Lebitch... atleast he's already making up excuses why he left. I guess he is already starting to blame everyone including the newspaper for writing mean articles...

This is something cowherd brought up yesterday that I agree with, he's just setting the stage to leave orlando... sucks ... is it wrong to root for a lockout.. perhaps forever?

players league. the real question is how do they get away from that stigma. Other than owners flat out refusing to sign the guys who try to muscle their way onto other teams. Although leaving via free agency is a lot different than forcing a trade, like Melo did.

Basically it is impossible for the NBA to get away from the 'players league' stigma. Mainly due to the fact that one player can make that big of a difference.

Baseball & football don't have those issues because 1 really good guy doesn't make them a championship calibur team. So the owners don't have to give in to one guy. They can build their teams with a group of good/great players and win it all.

BUT, in the NBA a superstar makes or breaks your team. Look at the Cavs, they lose LeBron and become crap, conversely when they got LeBron they went from crap to playoff team to championship contender.

So NBA owners don't have the same luxury, a team like the Detroit Pistons only win the title once every 15-20 years. But more often a team like the Lakers, Celtics, Heat or Bulls that have one (or multiple) superstars win the championship. So it is impossible for an owner to say no in getting a superstar because it means they have no chance to win it all.

eh...Dwight isn't the hometown kid, with "The Chosen One" tattoo'd on his back or "King" on his chest.

The self-proclaimed "chosen one" and "king" had to leave his home to chase rings. It's not just that LeBron left, it's that left with this arrogance of being God's gift, and ironically even though he still believes it in his own mind, God's gift had to go to another superstar's team to accomplish his goals.

I don't think Dwight has brought that type of attention on himself.

The NBA needs a franchise tag like the NFL. If a player wants to hold out and try to force a trade they are more than welcome to, but the team that owns their contract has the right of first refusal before they can leave as a FA.
I didn't mind the soft cap before the whole Lebron thing, but now I want a hard cap to fuck over the Heat and every other team that has a few max deals. Just need the Celtics or Bulls to get the job done this season.

There are more haves than have-nots in the NBA. Franchises in flyover country have little to no chance of retaining or attracting star players in today's NBA. At this point they have nothing to lose if they were to hold the rest of the league hostage.

Plus, if the owners have the guts to do it they can outlast the players and impose their will on the next CBA. Even more so than other leagues like MLB or the NFL, most NBA franchises are owned by people who make their money in other industries. They are not going to be hurt nearly as bad if there's a long and nasty dispute. Most NBA players on the other hand have no marketable skills beyond basketball. They NEED the league to be open for business.

Not to mention many of the players are used to a multi-million dollar a year lifestyle and will probably not be able to slow down the spending even though they aren't getting a paycheck.

Most of them are barely literate, uneducated, goons. I'm sure a hefty number will be filing for bankruptcy inside of six months.

I don't think Howard will leave Orlando. I dont think he's bull [Mark May]ting when he wants to see the team attempt to get him help. He has said he wants to wait and see what the new CBA is about. He also knows that Orlando got screwed whan Shaq left for L.A.

The writers are just worried they're gonna get screwed again.

I love the Franchise tag idea. That would stop all this [Mark May]. Like the NFL, you can only franchise one player. That should stop the inmates from running the asylum.
