EA Sports MVP NCAA Baseball 2006

TheStoicPaisano

But I didn't, so it doesn't
Finally, there is a true college baseball game, which comes out Jan. 18th. Runs off mainly the same engine as MVP 2005, which was considered the best MLB game last year. However, due to all the exclusivity shenanigans, EA doesn't have an MLB license anymore.

128 teams are in the game, Buckeyes included. There are only a few stadiums, but there is finally a full-fledged create your own. This is also the first EA baseball game to feature the ESPN (I know, I know) markings. The broadcast team is Kyle Peterson and Mike Patrick.

So far it is only planned for PS2 and XBOX, but there is the sweet MSRP of $29.99. I'll definitely take a look at this title.

I saw this advertised, and was thinking I would rent it first b4 thinking about buying it. I like the idea, but not a whole lot of people follow college baseball, and they don't market it like they do basketball and football so I don't really konw how many people are actually going to check this game out.

I'm definitly going to give this game a try this year. Should be interesting because not many college baseball games are made. The gameplay on MVP was way better than the other games last year and this one is only $30.

I guess there's a new swing system integrated in this game where you use the right stick to load up and then move it forward to hit. If you start your swing to early, you won't have as much power and the same thing goes id you load up to late. Should be interesting...

You said that not all of the stadiums are in the game (There are only a few stadiums).

Is OSU stadium in the game?

Bill Davis Stadium is not in the game.

In addition to the 19 real stadiums, there are about ten that have the dimensions of major league ballparks with different names (Yankee Stadium is now "Bronx Stadium").

Here we go:
Rosenblatt Stadium - College World Series
Texas' Disch Falk Field
Arizona State's Packard Stadium
Baylor's Baylor Ballpark
Cal State Fullerton's Goodwin Field
Clemson's Doug Kingsmore Field
FSU's Dick Howser Stadium
Georgia Tech's Russ Chandler Stadium
LSU's Alex Box Stadium
Miami's Alex Rodriguez Stadium (this one looks real nice)
Ole Miss' Swayze Field
Notre Dame's Frank Eck Stadium
Rice's Eckling Park (very nice)
Stanford's Sunken Diamond
Tennessee's Lindsey Nelson Stadium
USC's Dedeaux Field
St. John's The Ballpark at St. John's University
Nebraska's Hawks Field
Arizona's Frank Sancet Field

I think a game like this could actually help the popularity of college baseball. And give EA sports a year or two and they will have all the stadiums in there and this game will be sweet, but the price will go up then.:(

A little off topic, but I think with all the open space that ESPN seems to have that they should pick up some college baseball this year. I know foxsports does some from time to time.

This game is suh-weet. Played as OSU against Michigan in my first game, won 3-2.

The new Load & Fire hitting system will take some getting use to, as you have to pay attention to this plus the hitter's eye and pitch location from last year. The new throwing system definitely replicates defense well, my SS had three errors and first baseman had to save a couple more errant throws.

Create-a-stadium is decent. Only things you can do are the distance/height of the walls, grass pattern, and amount of foul territory. There are presets in there with the major league dimensions/wall height. All the walls are the generic green. You can go from 317-420 feet out and 4-50 feet high. There are 17 sections on the wall, so you can make some funky angles.

Atmosphere is a little lacking. I got out of a bases loaded, no-out jam in the game, and the fans didn't really make any additional noise.

Now that you have the game, what types of game play are there.

I would assume, season with World Series at the end, just World Sereis and Exhibition. Do they have dynasty/franchise type thing.

Off the top of my head (I'll do a better list when I'm back at my apartment with the game):

-exhibition
-dynasty (recruiting and all, you could ignore this if you only want to do one season, I guess) If you create a team here, you take over one of the existing teams/rosters. I chose to override Santa Clara, I think.
-Mini-games (hitting, pitching, timed pitching)
-home run derby
-create-a-stadium, create-a-player
