Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim

with nothing from Wizards/AD&D in this mode of play, Elder Scrolls has become a main stay in my gaming. I'm a D&D nerd from way back in the early 80's. Elder Scrolls gives me my gaming fix. NWN was cool, Baldur's Gate and BG2 were both fun. But neither of them had the immersion that ES does.

Fallout may be more depressing, but the story is better. The setting is scarier, probably cause a nuclear arms race in the 50s could have made it a reality. The characters are more entertaining for sure. I loved some features of Morrowind and Oblivion, but the total package couldn't hold a candle to Fallout imo.

I disagree strongly that it doesn't hold a candle to Fallout. They're really similar in many ways. Just depends if you like a post-apocalyptic world or a bright fantasy world more.

Nobody does bright fantasy world RPG better than Bethesda, at least as far as single player games...but theres a lot of titles in that genre too and there really isn't anything quite like Fallout. It's personal preference I guess, I still love Elder Scrolls (The first two FAQs I ever wrote for GameFAQs were for the Thieves and Mages Guilds quest lines, they're still up there), but I just feel Fallout is more unique and entertaining.

Holy crap, that looks awesome - especially the menu. I hope they can beef up the way players interact with their inventories a little bit - Being able to find items when you're able to take on higher encumbrances can be a chore - some better sorting or tagging functions would be welcome if they can pull it off without slowing things down.

I can't wait for this game - I loved Morrowind on XBOX and after finally getting a PS3 I'm playing Oblivion now. Hopefully I can wrap it up before Skyrim comes out. My wife is going to hate me.

I'm curious about what engine it runs on.

I want to say Gamebyro but with different particle effects, dynamic lighting etc etc.

I wonder if this could be a glimpse of IDT5? They acquired the company and all design rights but it wasn't long enough ego to have based Skyrim on something they didn't have.
Starting over would be counter-productive at this point, game looks great anyway.

So long as this isn't anywhere near as buggy as Oblivion. God damn was that game awful on launch. I understand too, thing was huge - but seriously, terrible playability early on.

That said. I also fully remember the machine I was playing on when Oblivion was released. So I'll make sure to have the proper hardware this time around.

A gaming laptop is nice. I was not a laptop person myself, but I actually used to trudge my desktop to friends houses a few times a year for gaming and what not. After Fallout 3 came out I got tired of the fact I could only play it at home most of the time, so I looked into a powerful mobile solution. While the laptop is slightly slower than my gaming rig, it's damn close since it was built for gaming. I now find I'm on this thing more than my desktop and its handled anything I've been playing the last 4 years
