You bring up the exact issue there. UFM and company know what is good, but it is curious to see if we take 2 this year or next. My gut says they go all out only on top-flight '17 guys (i.e. Martell and Mond) and if you miss out there, the worst case is that you have an amazing QB in Danny Clark coming in and we figure out '18 after.

I am really high on Jones though and if he is prepared to verbal here anytime soon, I think we hands-down take it. Fits like a glove in our offense imo.

First time I really got to watch his film in detail and man was I impressed. Sets his feet extremely well in the pocket, steps into his throws and has a very smooth and over the top delivery. Equally impressive is how well he throws the ball on the run and yet does not rely on it, squares his shoulders pretty consistently to the target before delivery. Puts the ball in the right spot for only his receiver to catch it. Athletic enough to extend plays and I think to run the read option...pretty cognizant, decisive and quick in space.

I really like how well he throws the deep ball and corner routes, but I would have liked to see more intermediate throws across the middle to assess his arm strength. Seems like he has plenty of arm strength and accuracy, but those throws are the ones that really show it. The deep out route throws on the bootlegs are very impressive, albeit to the same side of the field.

Overall, I think Emory could be big time here. He can move the ball with his arm and his feet, looks composed out there, and I really his ball placement.

Its interesting that many dual threat QBs' highlight tapes show few intermediate throws. I remember watching the same on Torrance Gibson in HS, everything was a deep bomb. I'm not sure if the HS coaches designed it that way to back the DBs up and give the QB running room if need be or what. But its interesting when you watch a number of HS DT QBs, few show on film if they can make every throw, but they do show the deep ball

Add Terrelle Pryor to that list. Every throw on his tape was also a deep bomb. I remember thinking the same thing, "where are the intermediate throws?"

The intermediate throws are tricky at the high school level because they are rarely a part of the playbook. Everything is simplified. You really only see it in more advanced offenses. The QB may often have the ability to make the throw, you just can't tell from the film. I think that is also why in-person evaluations from the coaches are so important...they get to have the QB make the throws they want to see. Hence why armchair QB's like myself cannot second guess the staff.

Either way, that is my only lingering question on Emory and I saw him make every other throw in the book. At this stage, mark him as the top guy on the board for '18 in my books.

Emory will be making his first ever trip to Columbus on the 14th with his mother & they will be staying the following day as well. Also plans on participating in the satellite camp at Central Gwinnett HS the Buckeyes are a part of on the 16th.
