Emory Jones (QB Florida, transfer to Arizona St., transfer to Cincinnati)

I noticed on 24/7 that Bama still doesn't have a committed QB unless I missed something, so something doesn't jive.

Especially when considering what we've all seen on the field with this one. Must have really pissed off Saban to walk away from a talent like that given that he's got nothing there right now. Something's up and ain't nobody talking about it. I won't even :tinfoil: here, but don't think for a second it's not crossed my mind.

Made Mike Farrell's 5 players that he has stock dropping for at UA All American practice (along with Brenton Cox)

The quarterbacks looked a bit better today despite the windy conditions, although Florida signee
Emory Jones
still struggled. I can’t figure out what’s wrong with Jones, but his feet are the main culprit as his footwork is inconsistent. He’s either overstriding and sailing the ball or not stepping into his throw and skipping it in the dirt. And on short passes, the Florida signee isn’t showing much touch. He got more reps today because
Jacob Sirmon
was injured and sat out practice, but it didn’t seem to help.

QB
Emory Jones
– The one-time five-star quarterback has really struggled all week long and doesn’t look like the same guy we scouted a year ago for whatever reason. His senior season was solid, but he hasn’t taken a step forward like some others in this class.

Seems like he has a hard time getting his mind right to me. That’s always been my deal. Polar opposite in that regard to Tate or even Haskins. Those dudes are confident as hell. I’ve always wondered if EJ has the stones to be THE MAN at a big time program. And for all the talk of depth chart concerns with him at tOSU he was still considering Bama and their depth. Yet Bama never materialized either and he was scrambling last minute. Seems like Saban and Urb both cut bait because if something I can’t put my finger on exactly. Time will tell I guess.

So glad we moved on... I was never comfortable with his throwing abilities.

I can’t say that. For a long time, it seemed like there wasn’t a throw he couldn’t make. His throwing is what had me excited. Good arm. Accurate. Now, not sure what happened but glad it’s happening to a guy not committed to the good guys. Not glad to see it happen to him, personally, just glad that whatever the problem seems to be, isn’t Ohio State’s problem.

That goes without saying... I never want a kid like Emory to fail but there was plenty of flags regarding his throwing. He struggled in the summer circuit, didn't get invited to the elite QB camp, and his stats were never jaw dropping like some QB's in HS are

Makes you wonder if the staff was kinda on the same page here. Were he lighting things up across the camp circuit and he continued the trajectory he was on when he was first being recruited, perhaps the staff would have been a little more patient with the visits and waffling on his commitment. A kid tailing off his development trajectory and not showing that he was fully committed makes recruiting decisions a lot easier.

That said, like @CFPBuckeye suggested, never want to see a kid failing... but given the struggles and the lack of commitment, glad this isn't a problem that the staff will need to address. Frankly, given some of his struggles and the fact that he ended up a UF and will likely see the field early, I kinda feel bad for him. I suspect that with time to develop he could be a very good player. Throwing him into the fire without that time could be detrimental. I'm thinking of what happened with Pryor here. Forcing a kid to play before you fix mechanical issues and have him really ready for the game at the next level is equally likely to break a player as it is to do anything else.

If Emory plays early it'll be a disaster for him. He needs time to develop

All of this, coupled with the major non football selling points, is exactly why he should have been thrilled to be a Buckeye.

For someone like him, a somewhat crowded QB room maybe wouldn’t have been too bad. Come in, be around for some championship runs and develop your skills and then pounce when the right time comes up. That’s tough for younger guys to see though and I’ve often said that a path to early playing time is hard to sell against. The caveat though is you have to be ready as a player to handle that early PT. Ready physically and mentally.

Dion (Dion Sanders was the HC of the Highlight squad) getting accused of holding Emory back (only had 3 passing attempts and played the least of the 3 QB's) and not allowing him to showcase his skills at the UA game bc he chose UF instead of FSU......lmao. Not sure if it's coming from Emory himself or the outside world but another reason I'm glad he isn't our problem to deal with next year.
