ESPN.com's Bottom 10 Week 14RankTeamRec.Comment
2542.gif
1Savannah State0-28Was tied with FAMU with under two minutes left and missed a 3 to tie in the final seconds. Tough way to go down in history.
2344.gif
2Longwood1-27All the Lancers keep saying is "Thank you, Howard!" Anyone eagerly anticipating their inexplicable trip to Wake Forest on 2/23?
2097.gif
3Campbell2-21Our Camels are now an amazing seven full games out of second-to-last in the A-Sun.
36.gif
4Colorado State9-14Combination of 1-9 MWC record (with eight straight Ls) and heinous home-court design get them on the list.
21.gif
5San Diego State10-12Staying in the MWC, we have a new rule. If you blow a 10-point lead in the final 23 seconds, you make the list.
179.gif
6St. Bonaventure2-21This week, we're here to praise the Bonnies, who dumped fellow A-10 minnow Rhode Island to double their win total.
2378.gif
7MD Baltimore Co9-14Given the Canseco bombshells, we figured we'd mention that UMBC (now referred to as UM-BalCo) has lost six straight.
213.gif
8Penn State7-1711 losses in last 12. How can a school with this many resources be this bad in hoops?
194.gif
9Ohio State18-8This is for the OSU administrators who sold out this year's team to try to avoid larger sanctions -- and may have cost the school an NCAA berth.
135.gif
10Minnesota16-9We'll stay in the Big 10 for the paper tiger spot. We believed ... and then you lost to N'western at home and at hobbled Indiana (and now at Mich. State -- no surprise). Bah.

........

No matter what OSU does it is wrong in the eyes of espIn. I don't know what brought about this vendeta against OSU but espIn can go **** themselves. They need to get off of their high horse and rid themselves of their holier than though attitude.

When the decision was made, no one really thought we had a shot and I think everyone believes this team will be better next year, so why not get this out of the way so we can play next year when we have a legitimate chance to win a couple games in the tournament?

No way to win this situation.

Thanks, Oiler, but I think maybe we did win!

Who gives a shit what ESPiN thinks? They're still smarting because OSU took them out of the loop.

ESPiN is right of course, as always! Lord knows, they are such impressive investigative sports journalists! The decision by OSU will most certainly will have cost us a birth in the NCAA this year, where we might very well have made the Sweet 16 with a lot of luck.

Of course, there is the possibility we might have gone further or lost the first game, that's what helps make it very likely that the self-penalty will be viewed as a sufficient penalty as a result because the penalty will be viewed in terms of the most severe consequence it could have had. There's a lot less of a chance that future penalties will be hanging over our head to jeopardize our recruiting or ability to appear in the NCAA next year and every year thereafter!

When they called this penalty, I believe that ESPiN called it something akin to a meaningless gesture meant to draw attention away from problems in the football program. Oiler is right, they didn't give us a chance to qualify and really looked forward to piling in with "meaningless gesture" stories. Guess they may be seeing the wisdom behind the decision now and seeing how much it cuts the legs out from under their little campaign.

By the way, thanks ESPiN, for drawing attention to just how much Matta has turned this program around. It's little gestures like these that help with the recruiting and in building team unity.

NO WAY our team doesn't improve for the upcoming season. Matta knows this and is preparing accordingly. Why do you think Fuss-Cheatam and Stockman come off the bench? Thad sees what he has to work with and is getting his quality youngsters some good PT (namely Butler). The team could be VERY competitive next year.

Now, ESPN people say they don't have any agenda against tOSU. They even ran the "dental" story on the front-page headlines for a while. How are we to believe all this when they ran all the stories and some. Above all, every single one was written from a point of view that was against tOSU. And they still called it Balanced?

All I know is, I use to be a big time ESPN fan and watched it everyday. Now I just can't stand it. And if they keep this up.... I think we need an organized boycott of the network.

To put a slightly positive spin on this thread, Butler proved he belonged at PG last game, and we all know Stockman should be nothing more than a sub with his attitude and lack of D. Matta's turnaround of this program is already superb, and will be even grander once we bring in a few of our recruits over the next few years.
