ESPN lobs another grenade ... B.J. Barre

BJ Barre is a name that should strike fear into the hearts of OSU fans.

He is obviously the "deepthroat" of this whole investigative piece put together by the crack journalists at ESPN.

Barre was an integral cog on the OSU football team and was privy to many of the inner workings of the staff/athlete relationship.

A stellar player like Barre would certainly be taken care of by boosters and coaches. You 've got to keep a talent like that happy and motivated!!

No wonder guys like Doss and Wilhelm and Krenzel weren't getting theirs!!! All of the extra "benefits" were going to BJ Barre! :bonk:

So the question remains, what other credible witnesses will ESPN bring out next? Going back to earlier recruiting lists, the list of kids who couldn't cut it under Tressel's system (no longer on the roster):

Sam Maldonado (2000)
Marco Cooper (2000)
Terry Pogue (2000)
B.J. Barre (2000)
Andrew Lee (2000)
Jamal Muhammad (2000)
Rick McFadden (2000)
Angelo Chattams (2001)
JaJa Riley (2001)
Ryan Cook (2001)
Adam Olds (2001)
LeAndre Boone (2001)

OK, so they've got Maldonado, Cooper, Barre, and Boone. So who is the next piece about?

Andrew Lee? He shouldn't be too hard to find. He's in prison after felony convictions of rape and murder.

Angelo Chattams? He was dismissed from the team after breaking into a car and stealing golf clubs.

Rick McFadden? After throwing a TD pass to Chattams in the 2000 scarlett & gray game, he's now playing basketball for Akron, I believe.

Jamal Muhammad? He transferred for lack of PT after being buried at 7th on the depth chart at linebacker, before Tim Spencer helpfully suggested he switch to FB, where he'd only be 3rd or 4th on the depth chart.

Chattams actually may still be with the team in some capacity, but not as a player. He was suspended for stealing the golf clubs, but remained on the team. His playing career was ended due to a neck injury, but I think he's been helping out the coaching staff since.

3) Have the personal pride to actually earn a paycheck. Instead of questioning why someone would pay you thousands (allegedly) of dollars to push a broom for 20 hours a week, or worse yet, to hang out at McDonalds in lieu of working, they accept the money without rendering any effort or service.

Sounds like an upstanding American to me.

LMAO -- this is getting better and better. Somehow I think this has less to do with Ohio State than it does the NCAA. I recall a poll online: should college athletes be paid? And this was a month or two ago. Is it possible that OSU became a patsy for the SUPER-DUPER NFL wanting to get profit from the NCAA as farm schools? Its within the realm of possiblities. I kind of hope the NCAA does decide to investigate this trash, so we can be cleared of everything.

The entire problem is that ESPN somehow came under the impression that they were an informative news source rather than a haven for sports nuts to get their fix at 6 o'clock in the morning before work on the prior evenings games. They should leave the probative journalism to people other than washed up jocks and talking heads with funny catch phrases. Reporting the news on a whim can be extremely wreckless when you pick and choose the facts to sell a story like this to the media. And when there is no reliable smoking gun like is usually required they try to invent one (smith, who never saw anything or even played for Tressel). The ncaa should realize that 100% of this is about ESPN's history with OSU and nothing else. They want to take a boring (but effective) coach down a few notches in the public eye. What ever happened to journalistic responsibility and checking your facts before running to press? If a story sounds too good to be true it probably is. Sorry about ranting like this, I guess I'm just still fed up after all the election and all the lying that was going on there too. I bet Bush applauds this reporting!

The OSU issue aside, if you were an employer, is there any way you can hire guys that admits to being lazy ? It's basically what they're saying, I got paid highly for doing little work.

Aside from Cancerett, were any of the others JT recruits?

Game Day is not coming, it was in the Dispatch yesterday (so I was told). Somebody needs to contact those players in the NFL and those in the "real" world who have successfully worked with the football team. But, hell, we all know no one ever reports the fluff stories - its all about bringing people down. Names that come to mind besides the obvious are Shane Olivea and Drew Carter. Drew graduated last spring before going off to the pros and Shane was 2 quarters from graduating when he took winter quarter off to get ready for draft. Both were decent students in Sports and Leisure Studies, sounds like a cake major but with classes like Anatomy & Physiology, Exercise Physiology, and Kinesiology sliding by wasn't going to happen. Anyone who has had Steven Dever knows he doesn't care who you are - you don't study, you fail.

How do we go about getting the word of these guys out to the public. I would think Herbie would be looking for a way to help clear his alma mater's name.

SOrry for the babbling, just frustrated with all these has-been thugs trying to get their 15 minutes of fame by dragging the University through the mud. Someone should punish their parents (mothers) for raising boys with no scrupples. Fucking losers - parents and former players.

EDIT: One more thing, when you take a test in the Disabilities Center there are mirrors in the corners, testing areas I think are even recorded just to make sure students dont cheat. And, honestly, how many of these lazy fools would walk across camous from their normal classroom to take an exam. BULLSHIT! I am surprised they even knew there was such a thing as a Disabilities Center and that they didn't call it the "handicap" or "shortbus" center.
