ex-Cleveland Browns Head Coach Romeo Crennel (official thread)

Out of all the candidates so far, I like Crennel the most.
First reason is, Tressel - Crennel..Crennel - Tressel...pretty damn similiar.

Crennel - great resume. Parcells and Belichick man. Expert at DL's and LB's. Great X's and O's guy. No nonsense, disciplinarian that doesn't lose control of things. Ran the Browns defense in 2000 and did the best job anyone has to this point.

Childress - Doesn't even make the calls for the Eagles offense. Reid does. Limited experience with personnel.

Grimm - limited experience. Mike Tice clone. Not ready I don't think.

Mike Nolan - relatively new to a big position. Not ready.

Fassel - To wirey. Good guy but I just don't think he's the right fit.

Robiskie - way too nice. THe offense sucked ever since he got there. Couldn't show any improvement with Wash or Clev as interim coach. Ideal for Asst. Coach roll.

Unless the next candidate is Tom Moore (OC of the Colts) I think a DC is the way to go right now. It's time to bring the Dawgs back to the days of Bud Carson and Schottenheimer (the defense, not the overall results)

Looks like the job is Romeo's to lose now that Nolan took the 49ers job. This is a good time to be on the staff at NE. Looks like everyone is going to get a chance to be promoted with Crennel most likely getting the Browns job, and former Belichick assistant Saban getting the Fin's job.

"I've coached special teams, defensive line, been a coordinator and been successful at all those positions," he said. "Being able to deal with players - I can deal with people, the media and the whole bit. I think you will see that I can handle myself, handle players and handle the team."
Well, this is definitely a team that could use some handling. I am very excited about this hire. I see the AFC North becoming the toughest division in the NFL in the not too distant future.

Can we just move him to guard and draft a new HC?
You might be on to something.
In all honesty, I like RAC, but I don't think he's cut out to be a HC. I think he's doomed next season because there is just no way the Browns will improve enough for him to save his job. Nice timing on Cowher stepping down. Him still being relatively young (49), I can't see him staying away from the game for long. Cowher to the Browns in '08 anyone?

Romeo would probably be a good DL coach at a low level BCS school like Noter Lame. That might keep them out of coming back to Cleveland which might be a good thing. However, I think he probably would be a fairly good recruiter with his reputation defensive genius :biggrin2:
