Ex-Wolverine BS (all merged - including the tearful goodbyes)

Hello everyone,

I am brand new here, just found this forum last night. I wanted to introduce myself, subject myself to the ridicule, and take my lumps like a man before I am (hopefully) accepted to your clan.

I will just say it flat out... I am a 2003 graduate of the University of Michigan. I grew up a Wolverine fan my entire life. I never hated the Buckeyes as much as I should have, but I loved the Wolverines more than anything.

I went to UM and found that it was nothing like the utopia I thought it would be. Ann Arbor is a toilet, the people are stuck up and snotty, and the school is a hellhole. The place is so intensely liberal that one cannot go through the middle of campus to get to class without being harrassed about how evil white people, men, Christians, and heterosexuals are. I couldn't wait to leave.

I applied to and was accepted to Ohio State for grad school, which has the top program in my field. I thought the switch was going to be rough, but it hasn't been.

I bought my first Ohio State t-shirt at Longs a couple weeks back, and when they asked for picture ID, I had to use my UM Student ID. Buying that T-shirt was one of the hardest things I ever did, but I find myself coming to terms more and more with the idea of being a Buckeye.

Columbus is a great town, OSU's campus is gorgeous, the people are down to Earth, and I have to say that I am looking forward to spending the next 5-6 years of my life around people who HATE UM ALMOST AS MUCH AS I DO.

I will probably never share the intense hatred of UM athletics the way that you guys do, I wish UM well athletically, and when the two teams play, I want the one with the better chance of winning the National Championship win. But if they go into the game 11-0, I want OSU to beat them every time!

Attached is a photo of the side of my computer.

What a turncoat!

I don't know what your deal is here, but I don't want any wishy washy buckeye fans if I have anything to say about it (which ofcourse I don't)! I respect the stupidity of scUM fans, because although all of the things that you say are true, they blindly accept, support, and root for that school up there despite the facts. Ann Arbor is a whore, they do have stupid looking helmets, Bo Schembecler is a traitor, they have all ugly women, especially ugly cheerleaders, the whole state sucks. Yet dumb asses still buy those ugly blue hats with the piss yellow "M" on them. Complete Morons!

The Buckeye Nation over all is a welcoming place, but not to self proclaimed scUM fans, who switch sides when it is convienent, atleast not me.

Bucknuts may be a better forum for you. You and donnyJr. I'm sure will have warm feeling for one another.

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but I just don't believe a T-shirt and sticker quite does it.

Welcome to the board, glad to hear you got away from the Dark Side!

Tip number one... you must start refering to your old school as scUM, Meatchicken, M*CH*G*N or TSUN (That School Up North).

:biggrin2:

Had a feeling someone would react like this.

Thankfully, you don't appear to represent your entire school. If you go there/here.

I am not a turncoat. If you had the experience at UM that I did, you would understand. UM is a great school with great academics and nothing can take away from that. But the place is a hellhole, and I was miserable my entire time there. I like OSU better.

I didn't "switch sides" at all. I prefer OSU to UM. And even if I had switched sides, it wasn't because it was "convenient," I wore full Avalanche regalia in Detroit from 1995 on (I was wearing Nords stuff before then). I had people threaten to kill me, pull knives on me and try to run me off the road. If I loved UM, I would wear my UM stuff every day and get season tickets to OSU athletics so that I could wear my UM stuff and root against OSU.

It's not about convenience or fear, it's about me having school pride and wanting to go somewhere where I feel accepted. OSU the school has accepted me, and most of the fans seem to have. If you don't, that's your cross to bear. I should warn you, however, that you look immature when you rant like you did.

Ann Arbor is a whore. The helmets are classic, just like OSU's. I can see how Schembechler would be seen as a traitor. The women do tend to be ugly, that is DEFINITELY true, although there are some hotties (my girlfriend included). The cheerleaders are ugly for cheerleaders, but attractive for UM students (which isn't saying much.) The whole state doesn't suck. Most, yes. All, no. Remember, Ohio has Youngstown, Akron and Toledo.

The blue hats with the yellow M are actually classy. I am trying to find a black hat with a grey "O" with red outline, but it's just not happening. I don't think bright red is an attractive color to wear, so I am somewhat limited in the OSU gear that I can wear.

That said, I did just order an OSU hoodie to wear when I go pick up my girlfriend at UM on the weekends. I had people insult me left and right for wearing a Notre Dame hoodie, I can't imagine the reception when I show up in Bucknut gear.

Screw 'em, ya know?

No, I can't call them "scUM" or Meatchicken. TSUN? maybe. Liberal Hellhole? Definitely. University of Arrogant Rich Kids? For sure.

Killernut, you may have been an OSU fan longer than I have, I don't deny that. You may be more passionate about OSU than I am, I don't deny that either. But your hatred for UM pales in comparison to mine. You may have a blind hatred for the school based on athletics, but you haven't been personally wronged by the school.

I hate UM more than you love OSU. I just don't have a complete hatred for their athletics. Let me sit in the Horseshoe and see some fans who actually care about the game and make some noise, and maybe even that will change.

Welcome Ex-Vulverine ... er, Ex-Wolverine.

Expect to take some ribbing and possibly "not so friendly" comments ... at least until we get to know you (once that happens you'll probably get worse :tongue2: ). Have a think skin, stay the course, and you'll be fine. If we feel you might be slipping back into "bad habits", an "intervention" might be called for.

Have fun here, and we'll do our best to purge the remaining "Michigan fan" from you.

Couple questions

OK, if you read my other post, you know I am an OSU newbie. I know the Buckeyes pretty well from being on the other side of the rivalry, but there are a couple things I am curious about...

1. Do we like Clarett or hate him?

My take - seems to me that he wanted to go to a funeral, not an unreasonable request, lied to the Police, and had someone do his homework for him (happens everywhere, I wish I had a dime for every time I saw it at UM). Doesn't seem that there's much room for hatred there. He could be the next great former Buckeye RB in the NFL.

2. Do we hate Drew Henson?

My take - Seems that we shouldn't. He left UM high and dry and forced them to be QBed by John Navarre, UM's version of Steve Bellisari.

Funny story, there was a guy in my section who used to wear an OSU jersey every game. He damn near got his butt kicked several times before, I think it was at the Iowa game, someone said to him "Dude, why do you come here wearing an OSU jersey???" He says "It's not an OSU jersey, it's a STEVE BELLISARI JERSEY!!!" They thought about it for a second and realized that, as a Wolverine fan, you like Bellisari as QB because he was HORRIBLE.

Seems OSU fans should feel the same way about Henson leaving because it left them with Navarre. Let me tell you, I know him personally and he is every bit as dumb as Krenzel is smart. He can't even spell his own name correctly without looking at the back of his jersey.

Plus, Henson was a Clipper.

3. The Buckeye stickers on the OSU helmets...are the leaves green or black? I can't tell on TV, and they are black on the NCAA 2004 game. I saw a T-shirt at Longs, and the buckeyes were green, just like they are on that little icon here.

The buckeye sticker and Brutus are the two coolest things in college football, I think.

You're gonna have to get over your scarlet aversion before I take you seriously. If its good enough for Eddie and Keith Byars and Archie and Jim Parker and Steve Bellisari and Craig Krenzel and Jonathan Wells and Brent Darby, it's good enough for you. :)

1. Hate him? Yes and no. Clarity said this when this site was a fledgling: Glad to have him, but won't miss him when he's gone (which he is now). That about sums up my feelings.

2. I don't *like* Drew henson, but I liek what he did!

3. Green

I have no problem with wearing it on the field or the court. But have you ever seen a fat old BGSU alum wearing a bright orange and brown coat? My girlfriend and I went to BGSU just for the hell of it, and seeing people wear that stuff made me concious of how people look when they wear that stuff.

I think the classiest uniform in college hockey is the grey OSU sweater, I have been saying that since it came out. OSU's colors are great, I just wish that the black or grey were more dominant.

But I am a large man. Not obese, but large (picture a white Cyrus from Real World/Road Rules Challenge). A large man should not wear bright red (unless his shirt has a number in the 50's, 60's, 70's or 90's and wears silver pants with it), it makes you look like a giant cherry. To each his own, I guess

1. Like? yes. Just not as much as Eddie or Jonathan or Lydell or Bellisari.

2. Hate. Henson was given an offer he could not refuse by the great Buckeye Benefactor(this is the guy to like from that scenario)...George Steinbrenner.

Another question...

Anyone know where I can find a copy of that old ESPN commerical? You know the one... "big tackle on third down....BUCKEYE!!!"

Also, anyone know if there is a place to get cheap OSU gear in Columbus? At UM, we have Steve and Barry's, where you get hoodies for like $13. I love the Nike stuff, but I am a student, I can't lay out $60 for a shirt.

I don't really like giving somebody from up north a paint-by-numbers on how to blend in w/ Buckeye fans, but on the chance that you are sincere about forsaking the dark side, here's what the consensus seems to be.

1.) We like Clarett, because he was a Buckeye. We hate his attitude off the field, and we lament the way things went down with him.

2.) Yes, we hate Drew Henson. He was from tsun, and that's all that matters. From our point of view, it wasn't a matter of Henson leaving the wolverweenies high and dry, it was a matter of a major Buckeye fan in George Steinbrenner and his money swooping in to lure him away from the (real) evil empire. Couple that with the fact that a lot of Buckeye fans are also Reds fans, there is even more reason to hate him. During his stint with the Reds organization, all he did was hit .200 and bitch and whine.

The fact that he played for the Clippers is irrelevant. If you are actually in Columbus for grad school like you profess, then you should know that nobody gives a crap about the Clippers.
