Marc Loving is scoring 13.3 points per game and averaging 7.0 rebounds for St. John?s (15-3), which was the top seed in theCity League playoffs. He had 25 points in a win over Rogers.

It didn't take long for Loving to make his mark in the City League, registering 24 points and seven rebounds as well as hitting a clutch put-back in the closing seconds of regulation against Central Catholic to force overtime.

St. John's eventually prevailed 65-61 in that Jan. 15 game, which proved to be the difference separating the top two seeds between the No. 1 Titans and No. 2 Irish.

Loving notched a career-high 25 points in an impressive 81-60 win at Rogers on Jan. 29, and last week scored all of his game-high 17 points in the first half of a key 61-46 CL win over Whitmer, his first matchup against Hayes as prep players.

Like Hayes, Loving also has had a few ups and downs. He managed just six points in the Titans' only CL loss, a 60-58 setback Friday at Libbey.

His game includes the versatility of fine inside scoring ability as well as the range to shoot 3-pointers. He is 14-of-32 on 3-pointers, and also leads St. John's in free-throw shooting at 81 percent (65-of-80).

?Marc is a pretty special kind of player,? Titans coach Ed Heintschel said. ?He has a very high basketball IQ. He's 6-foot-7 with perimeter skills, he understands the game, he makes his teammates better, he plays hard, and he's learning the physicality of the game. There are a lot of factors that make him good. He's has a chance to be a very, very special player.?

Loving has negotiated his transition to high school by working the hardest on his weaknesses.

?Coming up from eighth grade, it's a little bit more developed in high school,? Loving said ?The game's faster, and everyone's stronger and bigger. But the transition was rather easy for me because coach Heintschel's a great coach. He gives you great tools to be a great player.

?The hardest thing for me was strength, and I'm working on that in the weight room.?

Toledo's two most coveted 2013 prospects are Marc Loving (6'7-1/2)of Toledo St.John's and Nigel Hayes (6'7/2013) of Toledo Whitmer.

Both have earned offers already, but many more are for sure to come.

Loving owns offers from Xavier and Central Michigan with Big 10, Big East, and ACC schools all over him. Ohio State is definitely in the mix.

Loving's father told us four high-major schools would like them to visit in August and at that time they will offer.

Loving is a Buckeye

Marc Loving (6?7/2013) of Toledo St. John?s made a trip to Columbus, Ohio yesterday to visit Ohio State and according to his father the trip went well.

Loving?s father also dropped this bomb shell.

?Marc slept on his offer and just called Coach (Thad) Matta and gave them a verbal commitment,? said Loving?s father.

Loving has been widely known across the Buckeye state as having elite level talent, but this summer he turned the potential into action. Loving shined for All-Ohio Red?s U15 team as well as starring at the Ohio State team camp in front of all the Buckeye coaches.

Loving continues to get better and better and his pushing 6-foot-8, and looks to have star power potential. He averaged 12 points and five rebounds per game for the Titans as a frosh.

Loving is Ohio State?s first commitment for the Class of 2013. He was also the first player OSU offered in this class.

So sweet to see a player from my alma mater pick OSU. He will be a good one, especially when his body develops a little more. St. John's will be darn good this year at basketball. Maybe Heintschel will finally get that state championship.

Marc Loving - The combo forward from Toledo has been playing against older prospects for a while, and his skill level is undeniable. Loving is a great shooter in the mid-range, and also can step out beyond the three point line. He is already around 6-foot-7 and still growing. Not a great athlete, Loving is an above average athlete, and is comfortable inside or out. Loving is working to become a pure small forward, and it is coming. He still needs to add major strength, but his body has shown improvement since the high school season. Loving needs to rebound and defend better, but his skill set on the offensive end make him a very intriguing prospect going forward.

Welcome to the Buckeye family, Marc. Great to see another student-athlete from my alma mater head to my other alma mater.

He really sounds like a great fit for Matta's system. Should work out pretty well for him as a Buckeye. I thought Loving and Tony Farmer should have been the top '13 targets for OSU from the Ohio prep ranks based on how they had been described, and apparently Loving was #1 on OSU's list. I don't think there are any OSU players graduating that year, so '13 is probably going to be a real small class, but this verbal gets it off to a really good start.
