F Matt Sylvester (Will Ferrell double)

Thought it might be fun every now and again to give people a chance to get insight and opinion from current and/or former players.

In the future, should the main website and stats area become a reality, these will be handled more like diaries, without prompts. But for now, fitting with the format of the messageboard, I thought it would be cool to have a Q&A format.

So, if you have any questions you'd like to ask Matt Sylvester, pose them here. When we have 10 good ones that everyone's happy with, I'll either get Matt on here to answer them directly, or perhaps we'll have them answer remotely and I'll post the answers here myself. Just have to figure out what works best for Syl.

If this goes over well, we'll do it with other players in the future, from at least the 3 major sports.

Appreciate that most of our student athletes have no small amount of contempt for the internet, and things that are said on it at high traffic OSU sports-related forums. That's not to say that you can't pose direct questions, but let's keep everything reasonable and friendly.

I know there's almost no one on the basketball forum right now, so if you know of people from other boards that would want to participate, invite them over, or just post the thread where appropriate after the fact.

Ideally I'd like to wrap this up before the Wiscy game. So have it it if you're interested.

10 Questions for Matt Sylvester

http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=234

As this is the first 'test' of such a thing here, I'm pointing over to a thread on the basketball board so enough people see it.

If this goes well, we'll do it for a couple football players in the near future.

Baby steps, internet fan communities are not currently seen in a positive light. I fully intend BP to be a clear exception. Doesn't mean we can't be objective, just means we are going to be reasonable. But I don't want to get into all of that.

If you have questions for Syl, hit that other thread.

1. Does having JJ in the fold make you a better ball player ?

2. You have kind of earned a "bad boy" rep. Does that help you on the floor as an intimidator or is it an image you would rather stray away from?

3. Some players are described as an Athlete, defender, shooter or rebounder ect... wich one or several of these would you pick to describe your game ?

4. How tall are you ? Shoes off ! Because you are one of the only players who actually look the height your listed at.

5. You and BFC appear to be close friends, are there any other teammates that you consider a good friend beyond the typical comradery ?

COLUMBUS, Ohio and PARK RIDGE, Ill. - The Ohio State University and head men's basketball coach Thad Matta have suspended junior forward Matt Sylvester for unsportslike behavior toward a fan following Ohio State's road loss at Michigan State last week. Big Ten Supports Ohio State's Suspension of Men's Basketball Student- Athlete Matt Sylvester and Issues Public Reprimand

Park Ridge, IL - The Big Ten Conference office announced today that it concurs with the suspension of Ohio State University men's basketball student-athlete Matt Sylvester for his actions following the Michigan State game on February 9, 2005. Additionally, the Conference reprimands Sylvester for this violation of the Big Ten Sportslike Conduct Agreement.

Ohio State University head men's basketball coach Thad Matta suspended Sylvester for one game for unsportslike behavior toward a fan. Sylvester will miss Ohio State's road contest at Minnesota on Saturday and has written a letter of apology to the fan.

"Matt Sylvester's actions towards a fan at Michigan State are unacceptable and have no place in the sport of basketball or the Big Ten Conference," Commissioner James E. Delany said. "We support the written letter of apology and Ohio State's implementation of a one-game suspension."

The Big Ten Conference considers this matter concluded and will have no further comment.

Crap that's a big loss, but way to go Thad. Perhaps it was inevitable with the Big10 being upset, but I am glad to see matta take a strong stance on something lighter like this.

I don't know what he did, but it speaks volumes that whatever he did, he was immediately punished. I am sorry for him and the team because we needed him for this game. I hope that others will rise up and take on this challenge.

This suspension highlights the true character that is inherent in the OSU sports program, especially when compared to Minnesota's failure to punish Taylor and Behagen for putting Luke Witte in the hospital and ruining his career all those years ago.

I am so very proud to say that I am a Buckeye.

What is the big deal? I swear at Michigan State fans every day. Most Michigan State fans only comprehend swear words. I'm just speaking in a language they understand.

Glad to see Matta is making sure that the team follows the rules and acts the way they are supposed to. Breslin is a tough place for opponents. My boss was at that game and he never mentioned anything about it so it must not have been a big incident, but still large enough to warrant a suspension.

Since he is being penalized for his behaviour towards a fan in the state of Michigan I can only assume he was helping them with their coat, reminding them that they had left their hat, or some other benevolent action.

Where was Geiger!!!!! This program is out of control!!!! It's an embarassment!!!!! If you don't believe it, you are in denial!!!!! I used to like Mota, but now I think he's crooked!!!! Someone has been asleep at the wheel!!!

I'm just kidding. That was kind of fun though.

The Tourney’s Top 10 Clutch Players

No. 7Matt Sylvester
Sr., F, Ohio State

While Sylvester averages just 7.7 points per game (sixth-highest on Ohio State), he seems to be college basketball’s answer to Robert Horry. All Sylvester does is hit game-winners. He ruined Illinois’ perfect season last year by nailing a game-winning 3 with five seconds left. He also hit a big trey against LSU on New Year’s Eve to help the Buckeyes avoid their first loss of the season.
