Thoughts from the recent video clips:

(1) Haskins may be the starter, but there is just no damn way you can keep Tate off the field if he continues playing like that. I can see why UFM seemed pretty convinced that Tate was going to play this year (back when he said that the best 10-15 players on offense will play regardless of the position, or something along those lines). The improvement in his game is remarkable and his delivery is a thing of beauty right now...obviously need to see it in a game, but it looks like Day has really done a wonderful job with Tate. He always had the skill and his arm was always underrated coming out of HS, but he just looks so much more refined now.

(2) Okudah is looking really impressive...obviously we know he is talented, but he looks to be putting it all together. While I am not sure he will technically be listed as the starter over Sheffield and Arnette, my money is on Okudah getting every bit as much of PT as those guys. Might be our best DB this year.

(3) Very curious to see who comes out on top for the open safety spot across from Fuller...I was thinking Pryor might have the slight edge but it looks like Riep is having a great camp (not just the video clips, coaches have seemed high on him). Seems like Riep is the best cover guy and Pryor is more of an enforcer/hard hitter...wouldn't be surprised to maybe see both play depending on who the opponent is.

(4) The WR position is going to be really interesting to see develop...so many guys to play and only one football. It will be interesting to see if anyone emerges as the "go-to" guy on offense, or if it is WR by committee. I am thinking the latter is more likely, but hoping for some huge final performances from our seniors this year in Dixon, Campbell, Hill, McLaurin and Saunders.

Ohio State practice notes: An insider’s view from the Woody Hayes Athletic Center
By Ari Wasserman 33m ago

Ohio State will have 25 practices before its season opener against Oregon State on Sept. 1, and Tuesday the Buckeyes had practice No. 10 while the program continues to hold reporters out during the investigation of Urban Meyer. According to an Ohio State spokesperson, there is no plan currently in place for when interviews or access could occur, but at this point, it’s safe to assume none will be granted until after the investigation concludes, which, according to the university, should be Sunday at the latest.

The season is roughly two weeks away, and Ohio State is less than 10 days away from beginning game preparation for Oregon State. A lot is happening inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center at this juncture of August, all of which has nothing to do with Meyer’s fate. Football is going to be played regardless.

The Athletic caught up with someone who watched a recent practice and gathered some much-needed football updates. The most worthy notes from our source are below: ‌‌‌

• Having watched a handful of Ohio State practices over the years, the source has become very acclimated to seeing how Meyer operates. Though Meyer’s absence is clearly visible, the practices are structured identically as they have been before and the Buckeyes coaches and strength coach Mickey Marotti have continued on the same plan. Meyer used to oversee the entire practice, meaning he would leave the offensive side of the ball and watch the defense, and that’s not something Ryan Day — the interim head coach — has been doing. Day was entirely involved on the offensive side of the ball and didn’t even wander to the defense, making it clear that Greg Schiano is completely running the show on the other field.

Cont'd ...

Seems like a solid move. No need to ruffle feathers while all of this is going on.

Going to put down Okudah as a top 10 pick in the 2020 Draft, and still think odds are Sheffield will find his way into the first round next year.

Ari's article at The Athletic I linked above is behind a sub/paywall, so I'm not going to rehash every bullet point of it since Ari deserves to make some money off his work. That said, his source, which I believe to be either an NFL scout or visiting college/pro coach, mentioned that he recognized Ward was a top pick when visiting in the fall of 2017. Specifically says Sheffield has that look this year, and arguably brings more NFL prototype size to the position, plus will torch every combine measurable.
