Favorite firearm that you own?

Colt 45 pistol,

Would love to own an M-1. First weapon I learned to take apart and put back together -- blind folded -- a real confidence builder on the KD range, when you listened to the range NCOIC and did as he said and plugged a bulls eye from 300 yards you knew you could shoot.

Besides a super soaker this is the only gun I've ever owned. Ducks didn't stand a chance.

And here I would have guessed "blunderbuss".

Mossberg 500 12 gauge pump with black synthetic stock and grip...interchangeable shot barrel with adjustable choke and rifled slug barrel.

I love Mossburg shotguns. I did a lot training with them in Chesapeake, Virginia and Iceland. Great close range room clearer with .00 buck in the first two rounds and then two slugs.

A single favorite?! That's far too difficult...

The Marlin 25 .22 that was my first firearm.

The Ithaca 37 I learned to hunt with

The scoped Gewehr 43 my great grandfather brought back as a war trophy from WW2.

The Ruger 10/22 that I've set up to mimic my M1A so that I can shoot cheap .22 ammo on reduced range targets all day long. Saves money & keeps the skillset fresh.

The Springfield Armory Lightweight Champion Operator (Farg, do they have to all have ridiculously long model names?) - Essentially a commander length 1911 with an aluminum frame - that's my daily carry (on the rare occasions that I do carry).

My Robinson Arms M96. I've always loved the Stoner 63 (and still hold a grudge against the Army procurement system for screwing over the Corps' attempt procure them) and since it is almost impossible to get an original Stoner the M96 is a solid modern repro.

My Springfield M1A. It's ugly as all get out with the go faster gear & chipping spray paint (antique distressed finishes are trendy right?). The only thing original is the receiver and it's beat to crap...but it saved my arse on more than one occasional in the sand box...so I lurves it.

The CMP is currently selling field grade Garand's for $495 (service grade = $595...prices go up from there).

Civilian Marksmanship Program

You can even pick them up in person at Camp Perry if you desire (and save the $24 shipping). :)

I've bought quite a few surplus rifles from them over the years (just recently picked up an M1 paratrooper carbine with the folding wire stock & a service grade 1917 Enfield).

Great folks and it's for a good cause.

After you pick up your Garand we'll work on getting you to an Appleseed match. You might even be lucky enough to get the ole' (relatively young) Muckster as your coach.

I've got a Remington Nylon 22 that I've had since I was about 5yrs old. Best gun ever made. I can put that sucker on a dime at about 75ft from the hip.

I've always loved the Nylon 66. Fun little .22.

Amusing story behind this... I bought this toy musket pistol while at Fort St Augustine... running late to the airport.. couldn't get to ticket counter.. ran small luggage thru the gate.. to be advised by security officer a gun was found in my luggage as I turned to see 6 fully armed soldiers and a German Shepard that appeared from NOWHERE...

Things have changed just a bit over the years.

When returning to my MOS school after X-Mas leave in 89 the guy at the airport security checkpoint ran my red nylon USMC duffel bag (it was my carry on) through the machine and asked me if I had a knife in the bag.

"Umm no sir"

He shrugged and let me go on. When I got back to the barracks and emptied the bag I found out I had accidentally packed my K-Bar in the duffel. :O
