I like the the team field and yes I do like the month and year of the person when they register. It does not make much of a difference now but when the traffic picks up it will identify the newbs and the lurkers. Just my opinion.

The month and year look ok to me. I'd say leave them unless you have an idea for something else to put there and you need the room. On the other hand, since you have the membership number why would you need the month and year?

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

It's already over there, it's a stock feature for that area (which is called a postbit). I'm just trying to decide whether my adding Member # and My Team has made it a little too crowded over there, and if so, if the month and year should go.

I don't think there's room to add anything else without removing something, but mayve it's okay as is.

What I'd love to do is figure out a way to not have it print unused fields. Meaning if someone doesn't provide a location and a favorite school, then it doesn't even list "Location:" and "My Team:". I don't know if that's possible -- check that, I'm sure it's possible, I just wouldn't have a clue how to do it.

Now we need a couple non-Buckeye posters over here so "My Team" actually serves a purpose. :)

There you go CC "Ball State". It's not my school but I chuckle everytime I hear it. Does that make me "Bevis" or "Butthead"?

BTW, I'm guessing that all posts change globally when you change anything in your preferences. So when I change my team to Ohio State this post will not make much sense.

If any of the fields underneath the user name has to go is should be the "My team" field, since 99% of the folks on here will be Ohio State fans (and those that come to cause trouble will purposely not put their team when they register). I like the idea of when someone joined (and no, not because I was one of the first). It's nice to see who's been around a while. The location field should remain also...it's cool to see all the places where Buckeye fans are.

I can easily leave it as a registration option, that way you can still see someone's team by looking at their profile, but remove it from the postbit over to the left of posts.

What does everyone think? I agree the "others" are going to be few and far between, but we do have to imagine the board a bit less embryonic than it is now. Also, I have in the back of my head that the whole project gets ported over to sister sites for other Big Ten teams after OSU is finalized, so at that point we could reasonably expect a lot more crossover from other fans.

I have no preference though. By removing it from the left, we are by no means removing the field completely, just saying it's not important enough to jump out at you with each post. Ditto location, member #, post count, etc. etc.
