Favorite Videos (youtube)

not at all a "favorite" video, but anyway...

watch at your own peril. it is rage-inducing. and the guy is real. he's not some plant, stooge, or shock "comedian." his name is oliver curme. he's a wealthy resident of boston. and he's a vile human being.

(starts at 46:20)

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2017/11/...d-breast-cancer-patients-oliver-curme-satire/

“It was clearly satire. But on the other hand, people who oppose a medical marijuana facility have to realize those are the people who will be hurt. They’re opposing vets, they’re opposing people in wheelchairs, they’re opposing people with cancer. So you can’t just blankly say, ‘Well we don’t like those undesirable people in our neighborhood,’ without making it explicit and I made it explicit.”
...
“If I had been able to say my full remarks. I think it would have been more clear that it had a satirical meaning and I got cut off. But I think the point was made, nevertheless, perhaps at my expense,” he said.
Curmie said he’s “thrilled” the proposed dispensary was approved.

Seemed obvious to me anyway.

That moment you realize your satirical point got cut off and you look like an asshole.

This was the first time I saw or heard about the video, but his intent seemed clear to me.
so you read an article titled "Man Says Comments Attacking Vets With PTSD, Breast Cancer Patients Was ‘Satire’" and immediately concluded that it was satire. impressive.

Meanwhile, swallowing something like this whole, because it fits your biases, is so you.
good point. after all, @MililaniBuckeye and i share the same biases. we're so alike.

Let's just say I might risk the ban-hammer if I were to suggest what you and Mili have in common regarding this particular video... 8D

As for my part, I saw the indignant responses here, and so decided to watch the video, which seemed so over-the-top (especially given his deadpan delivery and general demeanor) that I concluded it must be a send-up, and then it took all of 30 seconds to find an article where he clearly describes his motivation for making those statements as well as his support of the dispensary. And so I did not "withhold my differing take" (?) but actually posted it in reply to your post. Hopefully you haven't left that flaming bag of turds on the doorstep of his mansion yet. :roll1:

I don't even know what you are attempting to say here, guy. This was the first time I saw or heard about the video, but his intent seemed clear to me.

It wasn't obvious to me nor to the zoning board as they cut him off. Nor was it obvious to anyone else in the video as they reaction showed otherwise....

what? that i must be a toker? as i stated recently, i'm a teetotaler. i've probably had no more than 5 beers this year, and the most serious drug i take is caffeine. that the video is about marijuana dispensaries or that the guy is wealthy was not the reason for the video being posted. it was merely about what i took as comments from a cold, uncaring person. sometimes what appears over-the-top is satire. sometimes it's not. like our own ohiostate001 who proudly argues that waving to sick children is a "garbage tradition."

On a slightly different note...1972, before adventure sports was an industry. One guy is wearing a leather UO football helmet. And free beer at the Rainbow (a bar that is still there)! This is classified a class VI rapid with a 16 foot drop. Only a handful have successfully run it (mostly because the falls are part of the Warm Springs Reservation and they don't like giving permission as it is their responsibility to recover the bodies).

A better angle of the falls:

Oh my gosh, the comparison I was making had nothing to do with MJ but with basic intelligence and knee-jerk overreaction. (Wait for it...) 8D

Did you even read the guy's explanation? He was making the point that a dispensary's clients are not drug dealers and hoodlums but people in real need that no normal person would be against. Seriously, who would stand up there and think that speech is going to change hearts and minds (and then sit down without a fight when asked)? Sure, he comes off as the bad guy, but maybe that "mean millionaire" also helped get the dispensary approved.
