Mike Hartline (OC Ohio Dominican)

Rivals $

3/30/05

From Rivals100.com...Mike has offers from Michigan State and Kent, and is also hearing from Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State. He says one of the things he would like to work on this year is taking snaps from under center rather than in the shotgun. He says the only advice his brother is giving him about the recruiting process is to come to OSU. :)

This tidbit was in the '2005 Track' thread in this forum.

"Younger brother, Mike Hartline finished 2nd in the high jump, clearing 6'6". Mike also ran in the hurdles, but didn't make the finals."

A QB with a 6'6" high jump. That's some pretty good athleticism.

VA Tech NIKE Camp: Report 2

Hartline looked solid. He was the biggest of the quarterback prospects at a legit 6-foot-6, 185-pounds. They said the ball did not explode out of his hand like Schoenhoft last year. They say his frame could allow him to be about 230 with mobility down the line.

By Sam Webb Columnist/Photographer
Date: Apr 29, 2005

GoBlueWolverine caught up with Canton (OH) Glen Oak quarterback Mike Hartline after his performance at last weekend's Virginia Tech Nike Camp. The slender signal caller discussed what parts of his game he learned need work and the schools courting him at this point in time.

</CENTER>Hartline is hearing from Notre Dame, Ohio state, Michigan and Oklahoma. He has not received an offer from those top schools at this point.

If this kid had about 30lbs. extra on his frame right now, I would go out on a limb and say he'd have an offer from at least one of those big 4. This would of course also directly affect his throwing strength, ability to run...etc.etc.

No way will adding 30 pounds adversely affect his ability...the kid's a frickin' scarecrow right now.

I'm with Mili. Give this young man some pancakes.

We know he's got good skills and the right DNA for the job, and you've got to love the 6'6" height, but he's a beanpole at this stage of his development. He's simply got to bulk up. He'll get mangled as a Big Ten QB without 30-35 more pounds on that frame.

My guess (pure, 100% speculation) is that JT wants just one QB in this class and is waiting to see what opportunities develop throughout the year. He's offered two OOSers and has a pretty good crop of others seriously interested. If we explode offensively this Fall as most everyone suspects, with a receiving corps that could stock three or four lesser teams, plenty of outstanding QBs around the country will look very, very hard at tOSU. JT knows that and is willing to wait before locking down the QB scholarship.

Prospect Video - Mike Hartline
By Bucknuts.com Staff
Date: May 4, 2005

Is Mike Hartline the top quarterback in the state of Ohio? Despite the strong competition for that honor this year, he just could be the one who stands above the rest. Hartline threw for over 2,000 yards last season despite losing his top target -- brother Brian Hartline -- to a season ending injury in game one. We have some highlight clips of Hartline's season posted today for you to check out. Click the link for more.

Repository

Today's Canton Repository has a write-up about Mike. May 1 was the first day schools were allowed to call and he heard from OSU, Duke, Kentucky and MSU in the first 2 days. Yesterday he was at the Elite 11 Regional Trials in AA. They mentioned he has offers from Illini, MSU, and Kentucky. Mike says he has a definite interest in OSU and that if a school he really likes were to offer this summer he may commit early.
