Fear The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

I realized something odd about my perception of time on this new show. Wondered if anyone else had the same sense...I realized that it doesn't feel like it's happening at the same time as TWD. Maybe it's because TWD is out in the woods, or often cooking over campfires, etc. but that show feels like it's happening a long time ago, not in present time. Again, probably because FTWD still has--mostly--electric power, cell phones, neighbors (except the ones who've already been eaten).

I did like them holed up in the barber shop--it had a nice feel to it for me. Liked the music they chose, too.

Well that and TWD is in backwoods Georgia and FTWD is in LA.

I liked how Chef Desautel from Treme and that 30 year old dude with acne were fucking petrified by a noise around the corner. Then the principal lumber by with blood coming out his neck. Holy shit he's shuffling and moaning exactly like drug dealer my son shot...then ran over 6 times with an F-150 before he'd stay down! She's all "hey buddy you okaaaay?"

FTWD

Fuck These Walking Dead

I'm liking it so far, but I wish they had included some big picture characters such as the mayor or a general to get a larger feel for the breakdown of society. My biggest complaint though is that it's all happening too fast. By episode 4, it's just going to be Walking Dead--LA.

I'm not sure how they could have done anything else. People complain it is too slow, imagine if it was slower.

Then again, if they incorporated your government aspect they could have worked it more slowly.

But I like the nuances. The police officer loading his car with water. The hospital workers insisting anyone who might die must be downstairs. The authorities know what is going on, but it isn't the main premise.

So far, I think this series is much more similar to the first episode of Walking Dead and is much better written. But then maybe it is just that it is much more interesting to tell the beginning of this story.

They are probably staying away from the high level characters at this point because they would be sheltered from what you need in TWD i.e. zombies. They would be camped out in a situation room getting reports from the boots on the ground, which doesn't really make for good TV. At some point down the line after everything breaks down you could bring in one of those characters with a flashback episode that covers what the outbreak felt like from the top.

I like how fresh zombies are harder to kill. It took 4-5 shots with a fire extinguisher to take down the principal. In Rick's world one shot would have spattered his head across the room.

I am on board with what's been said so far. I really like it so far but I absolutely wish they would have had more governmental aspects in terms of a response, although I think they did a good job of portraying the protests of the police shooting the zombies. And I do think it spun into chaos a little too quick...already having the cable/phones/electricity go out kind of shuts down some aspects that would be interesting (i.e. reports on the spread in other areas). But who knows, maybe the government makes a come back and contains it (or thinks they have)...would definitely be an interesting twist. Good show so far regardless.

The one thing I kind of don't like is that the character dynamic is almost an exact repeat of TWD season 1...the barber is Shane, the pusscake guy is Dale, and the MILF is rick somewhere in the middle. There's even the guy with the 2 girls like ricks wife was. The junkie could be interesting, but the way he's booked he's just annoying. I get why they didn't hit the road, then its just TWD...3 episodes left, we'll see where it goes.

Last episode was badass, I am really getting into this show. Plenty of action but describing the start of the epidemic pretty well. And I think they about to start quarantining anyone who has "been exposed"...should be interesting to see how they start arbitrarily shipping people off who haven't been bit.
