Fear The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

One of the 'main' characters hates guns? Both young guys are sissies. The girl is going to run back by herself to get the bullets? And there is only 6 shows? That's like only getting 2 swigs of a bottle of beer.

So....anyone sticking with this? I liked last nights episode, and not just because of Sandarine Holt, though I'm not afraid to admit that I melt like chocolate under a heat lamp every time I see her. There's just something about her...

Er, anyway, they seem to be heading the 28 Days Later route with the soldiers, which isn't new or unexpected but does fit with Kirkman's general narrative. People first obeying and then questioning only when its too late is supported by history repeatedly. They do seem to be running the risk of making too many characters one-dimensional...they've added depth to the MILF and her flakeazoid boyfriend, and his ex has this new angle now. But the kid has to be more than just a drug seeker, and I am actively rooting for his sister to bite it. I think they could do more with the barber too, though from the previews it looks like they might. Still, I thought the barbers government story and the note at the end fading to black were the best parts of the show so far.

Barber and the MILF are the two best characters. Travis might get interesting depending on how they show his evolution from gun hating schoolteacher to somebody who comes around to the changed world and what he needs to do in it. I wish they'd kept the nerdy kid around because he was the only one who saw this coming. He would have been good for bringing some big picture perspective such as talking about what he learned on the web before things went to shit.

I find that interesting as well, on a couple of levels. First, I don't know if you were like me, but when I saw the "light signal" the first thing I thought of was nerdy kid. So I am wondering if the MILF is going to break out with the barber and find his body there, then find out it was pusscake who sold them out to the commander dude. I hope he enjoyed that back seat booty, because I think that's all he's ever getting.

Second though, and I forget where I read this, but in response to someone saying something about a plot hole like "anyone who has ever seen a Romero movie would have known that in 10 seconds", Kirkman said that zombies didn't exist in this world before now, so there were no Romero movies. Which is a major reach, but it does make me wonder what the kid could have dug up.

I think it would have been internet chatter about the earliest incidents. Maybe, a'la World War Z, the virus starts outside of the US and then makes it's way here through various means. The government would undoubtedly try to suppress the info, and the interwebs would be the logical place for stories to start spreading.

It's also disappointing that there is no discussion of the dawning realization that a head shot is needed to bring them down. Clearly the military knows at this point, but it's highly unlikely that the civilians wouldn't be coming to this conclusion. Particularly the MILF and Travis because they've seen it now three and two times respectively.

Soooo...the barber was the Salvadoran Mengele? And his wife helped? Is that what i got out of that?

As for the show, it was kind of uneven for me. What was the point of spending so much time on pusscakes trip outside? We already knew he didn't like guns and still thought they were human. And he never made it to the hospital. But that was 20 minutes +. And were they teasing sexual tension between the stepkids? That kind of came out of nowhere too. And that also took too long...it was almost like trying to force a Romero mall scene in there. It did move the plot along some, and uberhottie Dr. Indicated that a) they figured out the head shot, and b) that it didn't take a bite. But of course since all communications are dead...

General TWD question. If everyone has the virus and will turn into a walker when they die why does a bite matter? What is it about getting bit that makes someone die and turn within a few days while they could get stabbed or shot and get patched up and be fine? Why can't they just clean up a bite and be fine since they all have the virus already?

never read the comics, but I'll guess that it's something along the lines of the virus being dormant in a normal person, and it doesn't become active until death. whereas getting bit introduces the active virus into the blood, or some kind of medical explanation along those lines.

The bite, according to the Kirkman lore, sort of initiates a virus that kills the bitten person if not dealt with immediately.

Some have been able to survive a bite if it was on an extremity by chopping that limb, others have not. It's that Sci-fi science at work.
